Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by sk8eycat on July 13, 2012 at 11:49pm *sigh* I never had a nickname when I was in school. What can you do with "Elaine"? I've been called by my middle name since the day I was born.
I picked up "La Bruja del Hielo" when I was in Holiday...I scared the mierda out of the porter in our car on the way to Mexico City...he thought I was a witch, but that's too damn long.
Then, about 10 years ago, when I was working part time at the Cat Hotel, the manager saw my legal name (my first name starts with "F") on my paycheck or something, and yelled, "Felaine! Meeee-yowwww!" I yelled back at her, "Claw-diaaaaa!" (Claudia Shell played Victoria in "Cats" on Broadway for nine solid years....eeeek!)
That's the kind of thing that happens when you hang around with cats all your life. The only time I didn't have at least one was when I was on the road.

Comment by Ruth Anthony-Gardner on July 13, 2012 at 10:39pm My first name was Leona (Lioness), but I switched to my second name Ruth when I married the first time. Ruth Karei sounded better than Leona Karei.
Comment by Patricia on July 13, 2012 at 9:30pm Can't be any worse than Patsy....
Comment by The Flying Atheist on July 13, 2012 at 9:06pm My name is Carl. Those obnoxiously pesky girls from my youth called me Carlton the Doorman (from the Rhoda TV show.) I absolutely HATED that! lol
Comment by Ian Mason on July 13, 2012 at 9:02pm Welcome to AN, Destiny. You're spot on with your "mind and matter" comment.
Comment by Tony Carroll on July 13, 2012 at 8:33pm Hey there Destiny. Welcome to AN. I'm so glad you are here and enjoying yourself. I'm on FB, but I only have 8 friends, lol. Just family, mostly so I can keep up with how they are doing. I really don't know how to find people there, but I would dearly love to see your video. So maybe you could contact me as I'm not sure how. Tony Carroll in Palestine, Texas.
And "Mindy", if you can, I can. Full legal name Bert Anthony Carroll Jr. Eewww! Bert. Whenever someone found out, always got "Hey Bert, how's Ernie"? Still, love the muppets. lol
