Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

@James Martin: You said, "The more loudly they proclaim their Christeranity the more likely they don't know what it means or suspect they might not really believe it at all."

Exactly!  They remind me of the Cowardly Lion in "The Wizard of Oz" yelling "I DO believe in spooks!  I do, I DO, I DO!"  They were all lost in a creepy forest where the dead-looking trees were reaching for them with their branches.

Freethinker Yip Harburg wrote a lot of the dialog for that film, in addition to the lyrics of most of the songs.  That short bit of action has his humorous/sarcastic trademark stamped all over it.

Dear Griining Cat:I'm sorry...I'm kind of out of it right now.  I learned this morning (Sunday) that my friend of 12 years, Judith Hayes aka The Happy Heretic, http://s129542369.onlinehome.us/thh/ ) died sometime this past week.  I don't know exactly what happened, but the last time she talked to or e-mailed anybody was June 19th or 20th. The last time she called me was Sunday, the 17th to talk about me becoming her "first Reader."

The Calaveras County Cops aren't talking until they "notify the next of kin."  Yeah. Right. Her "next of kin" shuned her when she came out as an atheist nearly 35 years ago.

Anyway, I'm stunned, devastated, just sick about the whole thing, and not making much sense.

Later.

Thanks Steph! I was at a bookcrossing meeting (www.bookcrossing.com) saw many friends and changed a stack of books.

@sk8eycat et al.: Dave Silverman came up with a pose similar to Tebowing, called "Thinkering":

"Atheists get down on one knee, curl their wrist to their chin, and look up. The pose is meant to mimic that of Auguste Rodin’s classic sculpture known as The Thinker."

The crucial difference between Tebowing and Thinkering: "we don’t bow our heads in blind submission, rather we consider and conclude for ourselves."

@Steph: thanks for the 4th of July wishes!

I got my fireworks fix Saturday night, as part of the celebrations in Philadelphia. On the evening of the 4th itself I plan to break with tradition and instead play music for dancing.

@Patricia: Congratulations!! The two of you are evidently doing something right!
