Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.
Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.
Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.
This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.
A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.
Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Comment by sk8eycat on June 30, 2012 at 11:02pm @Lillie: Thee is an unauthorized biography of El Ron (I forget the author's name) titled Bare-Faced Messiah. He said so many times that founding a religion was the easiest way to become a millionaire in the USA. He was right. It was certainly more lucrative than writing pulp fiction, which is how he started out. I think his WWII military record is mostly fiction.
As for Tebow...that self-righteous, arrogant S.O.B....I wish smoke, or some kind of vapor would pour out of his ears while he's doing his act in public so that the whole world can see what's really happening....
Actually, I'd like to see that happen to everybody who gets their jollies by praying in public.
Comment by Chris Dodds on June 30, 2012 at 9:00pm @ Lillie Fleur Yeah, you'd think that a guy would have more sense than to get down on one knee and close his eyes in the middle of a field where a bunch 200 lb guys wearing helmets, body armor, and cleats are running around.
Comment by Lillie on June 30, 2012 at 8:48pm Have been watching the Olympic trials all of this week and god is very popular among the athletes. Some even do a Tim Tebow. (I am so sick of Tim Tebow. I am hoping New York will take the wind out of his sails.)
Comment by Lillie on June 30, 2012 at 8:39pm Apparently, Scientology begins indoctrinating kids at age 5 so this must have motivated Katie to make the break at this time. She was raised Catholic so it is a wonder she joined Scientology in the first place. Of course, they are both big on fantasy.
Comment by Patricia on June 30, 2012 at 2:23pm Something posted on the news during our olympics 2010 was a comment from a Virginian, when asked what memory he'd take back home with him from here, was the fact we all get along with each other....no matter what ethnicity, etc.
Comment by sk8eycat on June 30, 2012 at 1:47pm booklover, The friend who sent that Canadian flag-thing to me picked it up from FB (I don't "do" FB...tried it several years ago, heard from so many people...classmates...that I never liked, that I unsubscribed after the first week.). One characteristic of Canadians that isn't mentioned on that goodie is that they are sincerely polite.
For instance, when two lanes of traffic have to merge into one lane, they actually take turns...one at a time. They don't try to cut other drivers off, and there's no bird-flipping at the driver who needs to merge in front of them. They just quietly let them in instead of crowding them over to the shoulder. I don't think the arrogant, self-involved GOP me-firsters could tolerate that.

As for fireworks shows, I wish I could invite everyone in here who has been sufferiing from the unseasonable heat to my home (in Burbank, CA) for the 4th of July. The days have been a tad too warm, but the evenings and nights are still cool, and the Chamber of Commerce puts on a great show from a park in the hills directly above us. Some of our neighbors bring folding chars and snacks (and beer...and soft drinks), and we party on the front lawn, because our house is on a corner, and we have the best line-of-sight on the block. Don't even really need chairs; I usually sprawl on the crabgrass. (No porta-potties, tho. You'd better take care of that before you leave home. The show only lasts half an hour, anyway.) We all Ohhhh and Ahhhh, and applaud, and just have fun.
The people who actually drive (or take a bus) up to the park can also enjoy a concert and other festivities, but I like being with my neighbors. We've all lived here for decades.
Comment by booklover on June 30, 2012 at 11:27am sk8eycat, I saw that on FB yesterday, HILARIOUS!!!! Seriously, what morons.
HOT weekend here and I'm sure lots of places. Fireworks tonight @ a club Hubby belongs to, but working in the heat all week he doesn't know if he wants to have to sit outside in the heat (have to get there early to park and sit with friends/family.) Both 'kids' (almost 18 and a 20-yr. old) will be home tonight and want to go with us, so I sort-of want to go. Down side is...Port-A-Potties. UGH. Have a great weekend everyone! ~Melinda
