My uneducated educated guess was that the US was going to be pretty green in comparison to other countries. My logic: although I know the US uses the bulk of all the energy produced on this planet, I was thinking that, as a first-world country, the US has more advanced pollution-control technology in place and stricter regulations, making us greener.
How wrong I was! You learn something new every day.
In a related topic, it pisses me off how far behind we are in renewable energy and conservation. I was a young and impressionable kid when the big "Ecology" movement was taking place in the early 1970's. If we as a country had taken serious governmental action back then, we could have been forty years ahead of where we are know.
Remember these? They had a HUGE impact on me as a kid.
