Then again, on these sites most were not really young and immature. Perhaps that is what you've run into and it will pass eventually.

Permalink Reply by Alice on December 14, 2011 at 2:50am doris - i'm sorry you've had some bad experiences with atheists - just because they are atheist doesn't mean that they are 'nice' people.... i'm sure you'll find some atheists on here who are snobby around you :)

Permalink Reply by Ruth Anthony-Gardner on December 14, 2011 at 12:30pm I've never encountered atheist-chic behavior, but I have been intimidated by the white male authority variety of "I'm more intellectual than you are. Bow down to my opinion." atheism, mostly in meetings and conferences. The first time I came across Atheist Nexus, they used this logo.
My impression was a bunch of snobs, and I passed. When I came across AN later, their new emotionally neutral A logo didn't put me off, and I took a closer look.
I also have not encountered the atheist-chic behavior you describe. But I have come across the sexist male variety.
Permalink Reply by Kacie Tsao on December 14, 2011 at 4:54pm Atheists are far from being a homogeneous group. Yeah, there are definitely the snobby ones who are "more intellectual than thou". There are also the angry, nihilistic teenagers who come to atheism because "god never did anything for me". But, overall, my experience has been that most atheists are decent people just like anyone else.

Permalink Reply by Craigart14 on December 14, 2011 at 9:44pm A lifetime of dealing with anti-intellectualism can make people cranky . . .
Permalink Reply by Kacie Tsao on December 15, 2011 at 1:41pm Occasional crankiness I can understand because talking with fundamentalists is like banging your head against a wall. There are still snobs among atheists, though. There are those who buy into their own intellectual superiority just a little too much...

Hello fellow atheists! I have joined this site in an attempt to find other rational individuals, such as myself, and to promote a current charity drive that I am trying to get going for the Oklahoma tornado victims. I have managed to get many groups from around my area, including the Beyond Belief Foundation to back me on this endeavor.
I am located in Newnan, Ga and have my own atheist group entitled "Coweta County Atheists". I am currently being backed by Spaulding Co.…

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film. The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons. He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"! .
No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes. 'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands. Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…
