I liked how Seife pointed out how gerrymandering and close elections control election outcomes. Here in the SF bay area Oakland and San Francisco started using Instant Run off elections. Seife says that if an election is close it ends up being a coin toss. The election with GW Bush and Al Gore is a good example. Another is the Minnesota race with Al Franken and Norm Coleman.

Permalink Reply by Kathy Lewis on December 1, 2011 at 1:41pm Glad you enjoyed it Doris. I loved most of it but I really disliked the whole plot with the woman he referred to as The Object. That put me off so much. You've inspired me to attack War and Peace, lol. Kathy

Permalink Reply by Kathy Lewis on December 2, 2011 at 4:51pm What was I thinking ordering War and Peace? Over 6o hours of dreary Russian stuff with lots of blood and gore. I sure hope the plot is engaging. I just got Stephen King's new book since so many interviewers loved it. I can put off W and P for a while yet.
