I was nosing about YouTube when I stumbled on this marvelous TED Talk by Maestro Michael Tilson Thomas.  I have been a great admirer of his PBS series, Keeping Score, wherein he brings his own insight into specific classical composers and symphonic works.  Here, he offers us a sketch of where music has been in the last thousand years, some mileposts of how it developed, where it might be going, and most importantly, its impact on those who play it and those who listen to it.

Please watch.  Please listen.  Please enjoy.

Loren, thanks for posting.  What happens when the music stops?  A very intriguing and insightful question, indeed.  I truly believe that music is the most emotionally expressive form of any of the Fine Arts that man has created.
