I don't have a smart phone and not sure I will get one. Just another toy, I think. Part of the reason is I can't afford the extra cost for data...or the cost of the new phone or the activation fee or the higher insurance cost. It does make sense that free apps would gather information and drain the batter while doing it. It pays to read whatever agreement comes with the app and I think most people skim right past and click "accept".

Not interested in checking in with "Foursquare" or playing Angry Birds. And I see no reason to have every song on my computer on my smart phone lol

And many apps access and "beam up" information such as your location, phone number, and contacts, without any legitimate purpose.
