Permalink Reply by Patricia on December 14, 2012 at 7:48pm That's the recycling they've developed. It's exactly like real brick but about half the weight & completely fireproof.

They look like brick, feel like brick so unless you're told, you'd never know it was made of recycled materials. The hearth stones are the only flat part about them.

Oh Patricia I love the remodeling.
And of course the cat -- such a beautiful cat you have.
Lovely - just wonderful work.
Congrats that it's finished at last! And it looks great!
Permalink Reply by The Flying Atheist on December 15, 2012 at 12:30am Patricia, I really like the color scheme....silver and grey....very modern. OK, you have to explain the rug made from pop bottles, please!! Never heard of that. Sounds like this was a very environmentally friendly renovation. I love the fireplace. How awesome it is to reuse materials for totally unrelated purposes.

Recycling has become a big thing & lots of oddball stuff is getting made into many products. No idea how it's done though. Everything has turned out so well, with the exception of the 4 month bs we got with the fireplace, but now it's finally done properly, it's beautiful. Was kind of shocked when told it was recycled rubber tires, but it's great stuff. Looks like real brick but not as heavy & of course the charcoal/greyish color went with the whole scheme here. Walls are very light grey on one side & one shade of darker grey on the opposite side. All new baseboards & crown mouldings as well so everything looks completely different. Next will be the external siding, new front & back doors, & the windows replaced, in the spring.
