Welcome Damien and Byron to our little growing group of heathens. Like Aaron said, there are probably a lot more atheist out there then we think. One of my best friends is for all practical definitions, he is a non-believer. But when I told him about this website, he said that he is not an atheist? But he doesn’t believe in any of the magic stuff in the bible???
Unfortunately that negative stigma for non-believers is really strong and until that changes, I don’t think a lot of rational freethinking people would even conceder themselves as (the bad) non-believers.

Howzit, Damien. Welcome to our little group. Now we're up to 6. Getting together for drinks and talking atheist story sounds like a blast, but I don't make it to the neighbors isles very often (and when I go to Oahu, I'm usually just passing through). However, I certainly let folks know if I'll be in their neck of the woods for any amount of time.

I used to live in Hilo but I've been on the mainland for the last few years. When I come back a couple of monthe from now I think I'll be living in Lihue. It's good to know I won't be the only atheist in Hawaii.

Aloha, Calvin, Andrew, Richard and Aaron. Initially, when I started this page, months went by without any input from other atheists out here. Now that I see we've got a small but important number, I think it's definitely a good start. I think it was Richard Dawkins who said organizing atheists is like herding cats. But, maybe we can start by meeting for a few drinks. I know Kauai and Hilo are quite far from Oahu, but should you two ever be here on Oahu, let us know. Likewise, I do get around to the neighbor islands every now and then so I'll let the message out.

I also think that there are many non-believers in the islands. Most are pretty mellow, and I guess don't feel the threat from organized religion that those perhaps in the south or heavily religious areas like Utah feel. Generally, people in Oahu don't like to publicize their beliefs and keep to themselves. I respect that, but I think why not band together and support each other for significant views that make you who you are. We're all critical thinkers, and the conversational level is probably going to go beyond superficial trappings.

Hey howzit Aaron, welcome to the group! Yeah, I know what you mean; most of the people I deal with are into deist religions. Although I don’t hide the fact that I’m an atheist, I don’t advertise it ether. The topic of religion almost never comes up.

Of the 4 of us, are any of you on Kauai? I started a Facebook group for Kauai Atheists and Freethinkers but so far, it's a group of 1... me!
