Depends..is it mentally challenging or more fighting? I get annoyed and bored quick if I start dying every 5 minutes.

If you want a challenge, I'd point you toward Demon Souls or Dark Souls. Arguably the most difficult pair of games to come out in recent memory.

The challenge aspect of an mmo generally comes in the raid environment. It isn't profitable to make the leveling process hard. You'll turn off the largest part of your player base. Make it fun, occasionally toss a little challenge that isn't mandatory to pass, and you'll have far more people willing to pay.

But yeah, check out either of the games I mentioned above and let me know how easy you find then.

Games are getting easier, at least on average.

But you also have to remember that for the last 15 years or so, we have steadily been getting all our walkthroughs/guides/cheats straight off the internet. Instead of searching forever for them in magazines, or hearing about them from friends, we now have them at a click of the mouse. Which makes beating them much faster, and easier.

And now with MMOs like WoW, we have pretty much all we need directly in the game.

Daniel, I totally agree about games lacking difficulty today.  I miss the old days of having to figure things out.  I still occasionally play MUDs.  If you ever played the original Zork, you would like a MUD.

SW:TOR is pretty much a direct copy of WOW with voiced mission dialog and a rail shooter space ship game. It's ok, I did a heroic 4 man with 1 friend and our companions. It was a challenge because we had no dedicated healer but it was fun.

I'm going to sound pretty old here, but are games just too easy now? I don't think I"m getting better, it just seems like stuff is getting more "dumbed" down.

You know how long it took to figure out Metroid or Legend of Zelda games for the first time? Now, I just follow the quest helper and a big arrow to some *shiny* clickable object or kill 10 things over and over again.

They were pretty generous with the beta previews.  I wasn't really sold on the game until I got some beta time with it.  This is the first time in an MMO that my leveling has been driven by the desire to find out what comes next in my story.

I'd be curious to find out what you found terrible about the story and what class you leveled?

The monthly fees are keeping me away as well... First month for $60, then $15 ish afterwards is too much of a risk for an MMO I don't even know if I'll enjoy. Waiting for a major price drop or free trial before I can justify trying it out.

I would disagree with literally everything. SW:TOR is an incredibly disappointing game. Another terrible, generic MMORPG clone with a Star Wars skin. Story is terrible, combat is abysmal, EA doesn't deserve money, and the game isn't worth $60, let alone $60+$14/mo.

If you can float the monthly fee, I can't say enough about SW:TOR.  The storylines are amazing and well worth the price of admission.  While it can be hard to justify the monthly fee, I look at it in terms of cost per hours played.  While I may get 30-60 hours out of a $60 game, I get much more play time for my cost with something like TOR.  If I ever get bored, I quit playing.  With 8 unique storylines, I don't really think I'll get bored of it soon, though.
