Yeah, I'm getting dragged to see it with friends and family, myself.

OW!  That had to hurt (falling out of the car and all) even if he was a "synthetic".  Even so, it does look interesting.

I don't know if I'll see the so-called Trek movie in theatres or when it comes out on DVD.  I wasn't impressed with the last one, but then again, it might just because I'm a die-hard fan of the old ones, esp and including TOS.  It just didn't seem like Star Trek to me.

I'm going to see Star Trek: Into Darkness on either Friday or Saturday night.  I can't remember which we've got it scheduled for.  I'll let you know what I think.

Thank you Tony and Ruth.

Appreciate all the posts here. And thanks Joseph for your replies too.

How is everyone?

Star Trek movie comes out on Friday.

Joseph P, it kind of depends on the size of the star that he was trying to collapse doesn't it?

I guess it depends how rapidly you're trying to collapse the thing.  Once you have a black hole at the center of a star or planet, the sucker is going to collapse.

Joseph P, it kind of depends on the size of the star that he was trying to collapse doesn't it?  Our sun for instance, is much smaller than many other stars in the universe.  An extreme example would be VY Canis Majoris.  Between 5.8 and 9.2 billion of our suns could fit inside of it.  Also consider the fact that we could fit 1,300,000 earths into our sun.  So doing a little math, we could fit between 7.54*10^15 and 1.196*10^16 earths into VY Canis Majoris.  Now we can assume that the Romulan star is probably not as big as VY Canis Majoris but this should give us a little perspective on size.  Do we know if the Vulcan home-world is even as big as earth?  This is all assuming that the effectiveness of the red matter only depends on the mass of the object that it has to collapse.  What about gravity and heat, couldn't those play a factor too?
