For 4 years, I've been the moderator (administrator) for this group. During that time it's grown from a hundred or so members, to 590, although I suspect most are not active.
I need to streamline my role, for personal reasons.
The member who began the group ("creator") is no longer here, and hasn't been for 4 years. The website, on the Ning platform, does not allow an administrator (me) to reassign that function. Only the creator can do so.
This leaves me in a dilemma. The only way that I can think to reassign the role of moderator for this group is to CLOSE this group to new posts, members, and comments, and redirect members to the new group. That new group would have to be created by an interested member. This group would remain on site, but only as an archive.
Is there someone who is motivated to do that? I would like to pass on the baton, so to speak, even though I think this is an important group.
I wish I could have been so brave back in the day.
More bad news from Africa:
Zambian men charged over gay sex
Two Zambian men have pleaded not guilty during a court appearance in the small central town of Kapiri Mposhi to a charge of engaging in homosexual acts.
They were released on bail on Monday after undergoing medical examinations to check if they had engaged in homosexual acts.
Simeon Mawanza, Amnesty International's Zambia researcher says, "Anal examinations conducted to "prove" same-sex conduct are scientifically invalid and, furthermore, if they were conducted without the men's consent, contravene the absolute prohibition of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment under international law."
"In addition, the doctors who conduct these examinations, by doing so forcibly, violate their ethical obligations towards people they examine," he added.
My heart breaks every time I hear stories like this.
I love this editorial from the Washington Post for the following description of NOM: "The loathsome and duplicitous National Organization for Marriage". Awesome!
That comment in a time when news organizations continue to interview NOM and other hate group people like American Family Association as legitimate sources.
Grinning Cat, that quote of yours kicks MAJOR-LEAGUE ASS. The final two statements:Pushed out? No. I walked out.speak to the thought Jeff gave this matter, the conclusion he came to and the choice he made, one that many of us in our own way share with him.Smokin' stuff, GC, thanks for posting it!
As I am a transwoman I really enjoyed her talents. The best part of this is that we "Ts" as a group are slowly catching up with the rest of the LGB+T community. When I was her age in the 40s & 50s you were either in the closet or dead. I may have enough time left to see us fully intregated as I could make another 20 years. A lot are making it to 100 these days and we are making progress. Even us Atheists are gaining ground. It has been years since people ran in terror if they found you to be one of those scary heathens that were "Non Believers"
Dallas, lovely video.
She's really a beautiful person, and has a beautiful voice. I'm a fan:-)
I liked that video a lot, Dallas. Thanks for posting. We are all beautifully wonderful in our diversity.
