Some "social conservatives" (news-phemism for prominant homophobes) arelauding the Russian anti-free-speech antigay laws. Like, "We want free speech but we are happy the Russian gov't is so against speaking freely if you are homo" or something.
I breathed a sigh of relief that Uganda's recent gay pride parade was peaceful and resulted in no arrests. Those folks are courageous.

And in Alabama.... public service commissionhas a special prayer!
Carl, I'm glad you liked the link to 76Crimes. I like that blog. Even though I often do like what I read there.
From Minnesota Rep. Ellison:
I commend the "only" openly gay Olympiad speed skater for going public on television before the games. It is my hope that in the coming months there will be an organized surge of support and joining of forces with other LGBT athletes as a plan to be visible and proud while in Russia. If there's one thing we (the gays) do well, it's networking, organizing and executing a good protest.
A boycott will not work and only further hurts those we are trying to help. But visibility of a large, unified group can send a strong message. Just like the "black fist" in the 1970's, the rainbow colors should be the message of anti-gay defiance in 2014. It's time for athletes to come out and take a stand.
Daniel, thanks for introducing me to the 76 Crimes blog. I've added it to my news feed, as LGBTQI rights and all human rights around the world are important to me.
cnn report on the Olympics and Russia's discriminatory laws.
International backlash against Russia.
Antigay countries have the most internet searches for gay porn.
With the attention on Russia we don't want to forget other countries where the situation is worse. 76crimes.com
On Jonathan Allen - really moving. I'm as much of a skeptic as anyone. I think in a way it doesn't matter. This young man's parents just got a nation wide, solid, "you folks are assholes!". Sooner or later I expect they will see that.
In addition, this is yet another validation from pop culture that not only is it OK to be gay, it's definitely not OK to be antigay.
Lately I keep saying, over and over, I cant believe I lived to see things turn around like they have. I know it's not universal, and there are many hellholes in the US and around the world. Also, then pendulum swings, and we don't know what tomorrow will bring. But in many places, this is a fine moment.
On the Pope's relative moderation on LGBT people.... We'll see. We'll see. The church politicians must realize how much they've lost due to their 10th century policies. I truly doubt it's because of someone's change of heart.
Hi Krizina. Welcome! It's nice to have you join us.
What's the situation like regarding both LBGTQI and atheist people in Nepal?
The pope, speaking about The Gays: "We shouldn't marginalize people for this. They must be integrated into society," Francis said.
I hate to break it to him, but we're already a part of society. What a pathetic, freakin' moron. Perhaps he should leave the Middle Ages and join our society here in the 21st Century.
