In what way is that bill different from the old Jim Crow laws? I was touring the South off and on from 1957 to June 1960 (we also played more civilized states), and the things I saw were unbelievable. Tacky burger joints like White Castle were too "refined" to even let the descendants of slaves buy cheap take-out burgers at the counter...let alone sit down with the white customers, they had to go to the kitchen door. In other words, businesses were saying, "Your money is accepted here, but you're NOT."
Or signs that said "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." Meaning, "NO ni****s allowed."
Sound like the KKK is alive and well in Mississippi (and Alabama.)
Is there a protest over that bill Sentient?
Will this nonsense ever cease? I can't even begin to imagine the amount of hate that fills their every-day existence. Are these people actually happy to be alive, or has their hate of others consumed them beyond despair?
In a move that will surprise no one, the Mississippi legislature passed their license to discriminate bill. And the gov signed it.
Senate Bill 2681, the Mississippi Religious Freedom Restoration Act, would allow businesses and individuals to deny services to anyone, if serving that person or organization would "substantially burden" the individual's "religious exercise." It also adds the words "In God We Trust" to the official state seal.
I sent the link to a friend who used to be a Russian translator ...for the US Army, but he wrote back that can't really hear/understand what she's saying. He did say it's highly probable that it's a hoax.
He is also taking George Takei's high road, and not gloating over Falconsbane's death.
That video, of outtakes of a Russian newsreader being unable to keep a straight face while supposedly reporting on the death of Fred Phelps, seems like a hoax -- but it makes for a funny piece of entertainment!
DO watch all of this
Cat, I just bookmarked that site. Thank you SO much for finding that! I love this, and wish it could happen in my lifetime:
"What I want to create is software that is as easy to use as the CAT was but with the power of today's broad range of applications. I know how to do it, I just haven't found a company where I can build it." Jef Raskin
Spider didn't mention it by name, but Jef Raskin is a very good friend of his, actually something of a hero, so they probably did discuss it. He did mention that it was a step or two past the time when they were still called "word processors." (That's all a professional writer would have been interested in back then.) Yeah, I don't see a 10-key pad anywhere on that keyboard.
I like the name, too. Meeeyow!
I still have that Macbook Leopard laptop that I don't know how to use (and my lack of learning skills caused the bust-up of a good friendship. Or at least I thought it was a friendship.)
