I don't know how it is now, but when I lived in rural Indiana, the only local places where gay men could meet were dangerous and degrading. Or they could drive several hours, to Indianapolis (oh, joy), or Chicago. In the town where I lived, that included a park outside of town. That park was also a place where locals and police knew they could go to harrass gays, beat them up, and arrest them. This game is not far from some actual realities of gay history.

I don't know if such places still exist, but I bet that if you find secluded parks in some areas of the south and the midwest, there will be married or lonely men meeting one another still. I also bet that they are sometimes subjected to threats of violence, actual violence, and danger, from time to time.

In the rural Illinois town where I grew up, there were similar situations. I never know if they were true, but there were regular rumors about why various single men 'left town' without a trace. I got out of there at 17 - the military was a much more welcoming place to be.

The game is peobably a reality in the place where it originated. We often see similar patterns worldwide. If it was a game of Serbians hunting down Bosnians, there would be more of an nuproar.

Games like these are created by sick bible-thumping believers that think it funny, and completely acceptable to promote hatred against, what they are taught in the bible to believe are less than human, god hated groups. Substute black for Gay and the same mantras come to mind. Gays and us (Atheists) are the latest groups it is still legal to discriminate against, in fact, HATE. Like the minorities before us, it will take time, and a great deal of education to bring these small closed minds out of the darkness. But above all don't give up trying. Each of us, in our small way can move the light a small fraction forward. I just bought a Richard Dawkins tee shirt with the big letter A on it and proudly wear it, I put out the American flag AND the Gay flag on Gay pride days. It's not much, but it IS something. "power to the people!"

Yes, utterly disturbing. (Unless it was W out there.)

Ugh. I know its a game.. and I realize its not real... but does anyone find it utterly disturbing that anyone can find it entertaining to shoot and kill another living being? Especially in a case where.. you gotta shoot and kill someone just for being who they are? And exactly how many gay men go runnin around naked in public parks?

@Marx, that is sick.

This is sick! A flash video game available to everyone on the Internet where you can play the part of a hunter in a park being approached by naked gay men. To score points you must shoot and kill the queer before he gets to you, otherwise he will rape you. The story is here. That's it. I've had enough news for one day.

Marx,
No prob, and glad you are involved!
For some reason I find the penguin sexuality issue unbearably cute. Glad that you picked up on it.
Thanks for the link to Oregon equality. It's one, slow, painful step at a time, but we have to be encouraged by the progress.

Hey Daniel, I forgot that there was an ongoing discussion about the penguins. Thanks for the reminder. As you can see, I am spending my Saturday morning getting caught up on my news. Here is another story that gay parents may find especially interesting: Court Victory for Oregon Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Trans Families.

A little Bromance? This was in my movie inbox alerts this am. "Humpday" (embedding is disabled for this trailer).

The reviews are coy about whether the guys 'follow through' on their plan. Would love to hear a review from someone who has seen it.

p.p. Check the penguin stories in the discussions for more stories, the gay penguin situation world-wide suggests that Antartica must be the feathered equivalent of BoysTown.

Gay penguin couple split when the bi guy finds traditional mate.
I know that this has got to be a disappointment for a lot of us. I was so excited when I heard that these two guys were raising a family. But alas, the bi guy must have thought that the grass was greener on the other side. You can read the story here.
