Eric. Thanks for letting me know. I fixed the link to Out of the Past. As far as the video, I'll have to look into that after 5 PM, as video streaming is blocked from 8 - 5. But you can find some of it on YouTube.

No, the video posted below the photo of Bayard Rustin, you can see the words West Chester, Pennsylvania at the start of the video and also the word YouTube.

The link that says "Out of the Past: The Struggle for Gay and Lesbian Rights in America" is broken - I clicked on it again, and it leads to a page that says, "Our apologies - this page was not found"

Eric, did you mean the "Don't Be Gay. Don't Smoke" video I posted?

Also, the post I made on BR was in the race/culture group, but we are not supposed to cross post the same discussion in different places, so I just linked to it from here. No, he was not an atheist, to my knowledge. Here is the link for that discussion: http://www.atheistnexus.org/group/conversationsonraceethnicityandcu...

I clicked on the one below and it works for me. Maybe it was some weird glitch.

Dallas Gaytheist,

The first link in your post is a broken link. Going forward, please consider posting the actual URL itself too somewhere nearby or in parentheses, it's hard to find a way to bypass a broken link without being able to see the actual URL itself.

The video you posted further below was not accessible to me, I am deaf and there were no captions, open or closed.

But I already do know about Bayard Rustin. Not the deep details, but I've known the general outlines of what he did for many years, mostly his involvement on that MLK March in DC and the fact that the folks around him weren't too comfortable with the gay side of him. If you're posting about him here, are you therefore saying that Bayard was an atheist too? If so, that would be new information for me.

Welcome Eric. I hope you like A|N. I spend a lot of time on the site. And I'm sure you're not the only Michigander here. :)

Hello everyone! I did a search for gay atheists earlier tonight and came across this group, so I joined Atheist Nexus and then this group. I first came across this website only several days ago, but didn't see a group for gay atheists so I didn't think I would be back here. Now that I've joined the website, I realize there are all kinds of groups, not only gay atheists, so looks like I've got a lot more to learn about this website than I had anticipated, smile!

I'm from Michigan, am I the only Michigander here? :-) If anyone here is from southeastern Michigan, there's a new Gay Atheist Meetup.com in Royal Oak, MI (http://www.meetup.com/Gay-Lesbian-Atheist), their next meeting is November 8.

This coming spring, around mid-February, I will be moving to Rochester, New York, so any gay atheists from upstate NY, feel free to drop me a line too! :-)

So, nice to meet you all folks! Hope I'll make some new friends here too!

SNP criticises UK government over gay and lesbian asylum seekers

The Scottish Nationalist Party passed a resolution this weekend criticising the UK government for its treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans asylum seekers.

The party held its annual conference in Inverness and passed a resolution attacking the UK government for "consistently [turning] a blind eye to homophobic persecution abroad”.

Anne McLaughlin, SNP MSP for Glasgow, said that LGBT asylum seekers were returned to their home countries without any regard of what might happen to them, including jail or execution.

According to the Herald, she said: “We are not talking here about people having the right to have sex in the street, for goodness sake.

“We are just talking about them having the right to say ‘This is who I am’.”

More here.

Thank the SNP by sending them an email: snp.hq@snp.org. And be sure to tell them where you're from.
