I been in several relationships and at my age and having my home, I can see sharing my life with someone, but i assume that person will have their own home, possessions etc.  I'm too old to play house.  In other words, I probably will never get married (when allowed) even if I am in a relationship.  I'm not saying never, just probably not.

That being said, I agree on how important this decision is for gay people. It is outrageous that any person or group of people is treated differently from the mainstream.  Even if I don't take advantage of it, I am entitled to whatever society offers anyone else.  I'm tired of my life, my love, my sexuality, and my humanity being debated.  I am not an issue; I am a person.

You never said why but I wish you great success.  I have had more than my share of major surgery in my time and I as well as everyone else were surprised that I lived through all of them.  My last one was GRS and that one I wanted and needed and was the best thing to ever happen.  I doubt if yours has the same meaning to life as that one but here is wishing that your Op comes close.  Some would pray for you but there is not a lot of that about here, just good luck.

Today is Monday......do you mean Tuesday am?  I wish you well and a speedy recover.  You're very valued here as well.

Well everyone, I have major surgery Monday am.  This forum is a great place for discussion and friendship.  I value all of you.

The indicators look good for positive outcome and recovery, although honestly I am a bit dumbstruck by it.

Once I have computer access afterwards, I'll update you.  That could be a couple of days.  Best wishes to all.

As a gay man and (as I like to believe) a person of rational, sound mind, I tend to think that, in regards to gay marriage, we have a very strong ground to stand on for winning our case in front of the Supreme Court.  However, in the last few days I've read articles pointing to the fact that very often the Supreme Court lags slightly behind the general public on social issues.

Throughout the years we have often referred to the Supreme Court in terms of being more Liberal or more Conservative, but the fact is the Supreme Court, overall, tends to lean conservatively.  To be blunt, the Supreme Court is not a progressive institution.

With that in mind, I've been thinking about the ramifications of what would happen if the Supreme Court didn't rule in our favor.  I think the result would be absolutely devastating and would set our movement back by decades.  It would also give license to certain groups and individuals to brutally treat us as unequal and second-class citizens.

Admittedly, I guess this upcoming marriage debate has gotten me a bit on edge.  There's so much at stake.

Discussion of polling - is support for marriage equality as strong as reports claim?  There is some debate.  NYTimes

It's always strange to think I might be an a room full of people, and half of them think I don't deserve the same rights and responsibilities that they take for granted.  That they think they are so special.  Then again, it's a lot better than it used to be.

Here's a BBC article with coverage of the French protest:

BBC News

It includes the following interesting information (emphasis mine.)

"Police had banned the protesters from the Champs Elysees, but groups of them broke through to the avenue.

Officers used batons and tear gas to try to dislodge several hundred people who gathered there as the main demonstration ended.

Mr Valls said the remaining protesters were mostly from far-right groups.

However, the head of the centre-right opposition UMP party, Jean-François Cope, said some families on the protest had been caught up in the tear gas."

So, according to the BBC, it appears the protest had officially ended but some participants took it upon themselves to continue protesting and to move it into an unapproved area.

It's down right irresponsible to bring children into the environment of a contentious protest.  The fact that riot police were stationed on the premises and ready to spring into action if necessary should be red flag number one for any caring parent to keep the kids at home.

Upon the first sign of violence, those parents should have turned those baby strollers right around and headed in the opposite direction, quickly.  But they didn't.  Completely irresponsible.
