Hawaii passed marriage equality. It has been a tough fight there.
"Outside the chambers, both opponents and proponents of the marriage equality bill were actively demonstrating... Tensions were apparently so high... bathrooms were segregated based on individuals’ position on the bill."
Also from the article, Democrat, Lesbian legislator Jo Jordan stood by her vote against the bill. "...she said that she had “no conviction” about the issue...could relate to the religious beliefs ...she never wanted to be a spokesperson for the LGBT community..."
Glad it passed.
I guess here is the 2nd half of the "Gay in the South" package....

Carl, at this point i think you could replace her with a poodle and have a better legislator. That's not saying anything bad about poodles - I share my home with two, and love them both.
Wow. That Hawaiian legislator really leaves me scratching my head. I think you're right, Daniel, she's not "all there." Poor thing. From reading the article, I get the impression that she's quite bizarre. Time to replace her.
Hawaiian state legislator / openly Lesbian, votes AGAINST marriage equality in Hawaii, even though she's for it, because only 75% of her constuents support Marriage equality! Maui wowie? No work on her views about marijuana legalization, but I have a feeling she must be researching the topic personally.... Or something.
This statement "“Has anybody been denied before DOMA or after DOMA — what has changed in our state? These are questions that I still have to settle in myself and that’s why I’m undecided.” makes me think maybe she's not all there.
Grinning Cat - thank you for keeping us up on important news!
In the U.S. Senate, a few Republicans (along with most Democrats) did vote for the Employment Nondiscrimination Act today: (via Memeographs)
