Back in the early 80s when I lived in W. Lafayette, Indiana, police were entrapping gay men and after arresting them, published their names in the newspaper.  Careers ended and some wound up thrown out of their homes.  I had dated a guy who was arrested, and he lost his career. I wondered if I was next. When I finished my degree there, I moved to the Pacific NW. It was not heaven - the homophobic Oregon Citizen's Alliance was active and effective, and white supremists were also in the news in Oregon.  But compared to Indiana, I felt like it was a new Spring.  This video reminded me of those times.

Not grinning about this:

Hawaii middle-schoolers' parents will have to opt-in for sex ed, after a state rep's campaign to eliminate the program over fears it was "normalizing" homosexuality.

(I wish I could have posted the discussion here, in Secular Sexuality, and in Parenting Little Heathens simultaneously!)

Agree with Sentient Biped. Are there no gay bakers who make wedding cakes? No point antagonizing people whose feelings about lgbtq people are, like those of Obama, "evolving."

If these bigots say they are "FOR marriage,"  WTF are they really afraid of?  Has anyone ever challenged them on this?  Asked them flat out?

NOM, the "National Organization for Marriage", the biggest of the Catholic funded hate groups opposing marriage equality, has a slick new ad for their march on Washington DC.

They are trying really hard to make their effort to, oppose civil rights for LGBT people, to look like the civil rights movement of the 60s.

I do feel like people shouldn't go after bakers and wedding photographers.  It makes them into martyrs.   They are not essential services.  Going after them gives ammunition to people like NOM.  Certainly, no one is discriminating against NOM's freedom of speech.

One of many versions...with "Tubby" Rove as the man behind the curtain:
