Very upsetting news.
Bean, 66, a prominent gay rights activist and major Democratic Party fundraiser, was arrested at his home in Southwest Portland and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center at 10:12 a.m. Wednesday. The indictment charges Bean with two counts of third-degree sodomy, a felony, and one count of third-degree sex abuse, a misdemeanor, police said ... Both Bean and Lawson are accused of having a sexual encounter with the same 15-year-old boy in a hotel in Eugene last year. They had arranged the encounter with the teen after meeting him via a website, investigators allege.
I suppose, the 15 year old may have posed as older - the hookup websites require uses attest to being 18 or older. I don't know. And people are innocent until proven guilty. And there are claims of an extortion ring
But it's still very upsetting news.
In India, gays can't get married, but monkeys can. ">200 people attend monkey wedding".
OK as long as they are not gay monkeys.
So right, Daniel. As the old Mellencamp song goes, "Ain't that America!" Don't Ask, Don't Tell was about as juvenile and absurd a policy as can be imagined, but I guess it was the most Clinton figured he could get.
Bertold, on the "114,000 veterans who were dishonorably discharged for just being themselves" - I remember thinking, when I was honorably discharged, "whew, that was close!" A big weight was lifted off of me. What a horrible way to treat people, especially people who were drafted, or enlisted, to risk their lives and give up their rights, to protect this country that so hated them and deprived them of the liberties they protected.

Sorry, but I'm pasting in the Rude 1's entire blog for the day.
Montana KKK chapter to welcome blacks and gays.
"Jimmy Simmons, one of the NAACP representatives who met with Abarr last year, believes he probably is trying to reform. If Abarr holds a peace summit next summer, Simmons said he would "take a strong look" at joining."
Ummm Uhhhh I have no idea what to say. This is where the word "gobsmacked" comes to mind.
I am paranoid about the "American-ness" argument. When religious minorities in the U.S. start holding non-believers and/or lgbtq people up as "immoral" because Mideastern Islamic groups and/or leaders (imams, ayatolahs, and other Moses-like tribal chieftans, the epitome of ruler-priests) claim the we are immoral in our affronts to Allah...I think you can see the implications of such thinking. Truly Hitlerian.
