BMA is making an awful lot of sense lately

Hopefully, anyone involved in the so-called treatment of homosexuality will realize that the medical profession considers them dangerous charlatans, and will reconsider their beliefs. I also sincerely hope that any vulnerable gay person who is unhappy about their sexuality takes notice of this motion and realizes that it is the world that needs to change, not them.

Gary - what do you think - should LGBTQI Pride embrace the Palistinian cause? Other causes? Which ones? I'm not offerring an opinion, just asking a question.

Was there representation by/for Palestinian LGBTQI people? What is their status in the Palestinian territories? Would that, or other Arab or Muslim LGBTQI cause be more welcome at the pride event?

Here is one reference, from the Advocate: "The abusive treatment of gays by the Palestinian Authority--which does not differ much from the abusive treatment of gays in most other Arab and Muslim societies--is conclusively documented. Take just one story—in the May 2003 issue of Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide by Charity Crouse (who is described in the story as a “Jewish lesbian anti-occupation activist”). Tarek, a young Palestinian gay man suspected of homosexuality, was sentenced to a “reeducation” camp run by Muslim clerics under Palestinian Authority jurisdiction. He said that for a period of two months he was “subjected to beatings with belts, clubs, and was forced to sit on bottles which were inserted into my rectum. I was hanged by the hands, I was deprived of sleep, and when I finally did sleep, my limbs were tied to the floor.”

This could make a good topic for discussion. If (and it's a big if) support for the Palestinian cause, is also support for persecution of LGBTQI Palestinians - what decision does one make?

I don't know.

Atheist homosexuals.

It seems that most Gay / Lesbian people who grow up in a Christian family, drop the Christianity and adopt another religious or "spiritual path".

The question is why are gay people trading religion for another?

My frustration as a liberal, the first group of gay atheists [by name] I met were devotees of Ayn Rand, John Galt, Objectivism and Libertarian anti-government free market fundamentalism.

Gary in Los Angeles area.

Pride parade can't be 'everything to everyone'

This year, some members of gay community find they’re not as united as they once thought

Greg McArthur

From Monday's Globe and Mail Published on Sunday, Jul. 04, 2010 6:59PM EDT Last updated on Monday, Jul. 05, 2010 8:01AM EDT

Under the canopy of a leafy tree, away from the blazing sun beating down on Church Street revellers, two gay men discover they’re not as united as they once thought.

The two friends, 63-year-olds Norm Galliford and Alek Nastajus, are asked about the controversial inclusion of the group Queers Against Israeli Apartheid in Sunday’s annual pride parade.

"Dealing with that political issue has nothing to do with being gay," Mr. Galliford says. "You can't be everything to everyone all the time."

Mr. Nastajus jumps in, pointing out that many heterosexuals supported gay rights when it wasn’t popular. Now that lesbians and gays are empowered, they have a duty to speak for people who need a voice, he says. "You're obliged to help others who need it."

This is the burden of success for Canada's homosexual community: They can get legally married across the country and are well protected by anti-discrimination policies and laws. Battles pop up from time to time, but the war is slowly reaching its end. And as a result, the soldiers are splintering off in all sorts of directions.

...

"I'm here to stand with the gay community and it's unfortunate that Middle East issues got dragged into this."

Sacha,
I love this. I have it on my ipod and occasionally play it really loud in the car. So far the police haven't stopped me.

To quote the group description, "Nontheist lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people & friends."

Welcome to the group. Enjoy your stay.

Oh. If you read back enough, you might find a nifty bi-flag atheist "A". I am not sure who posted it, but it looks kind of cool.
