Comment by Sentient Biped on March 3, 2013 at 3:42pm Joan, thank you for posting that video. It was really quite moving.
It's important not to make assumptions or stereotype anyone. Not just because it's morally wrong. But because stereotypes close minds and prevent us from understanding and thinking, and because it's often factually wrong. So to assume Texans are more prejudiced than, say, New Yorkers, leaves out all of the people who are more open.
I didn't see what town the video was shot in - that might make a difference.
Also, I have mixed feeling about this sort of "gotcha" "candid-camera" journalism, faking situations to see how people react. The same program has done similar episodes on racism. I would feel set up and betrayed I I stepped up to help someone, and found out it was all fake.
Even so, this was moving, and enlightening. Thanks again.
Comment by Loren Miller on March 3, 2013 at 3:32pm Ummm, Joan? Pardon my French, but HOLY FUCK! That was pretty amazing, and particularly in Texas, where withholding service is legal?

That's terrible news. I'm reading about the murder of that mayoral candidate now. So sad.

Comment by The Flying Atheist on February 28, 2013 at 5:19pm That's a sad story, Joan. But fast police work:
