Comment by The Flying Atheist on February 17, 2013 at 2:48pm That's a nice story, Daniel. I'm sure that made your day.
Comment by Joan Denoo on February 16, 2013 at 12:19am Sentient, I am happy to learn of your positive experience.
Comment by Sentient Biped on February 15, 2013 at 11:20pm Just something I can't get out of my mind. I can't say I'm not out at work - I've talked about my partner to most of the coworkers who are closest to me, and my senior manager, and HR knows for sure. I have speculated that it's at least a factor, if not THE factor, for why I was harassed into leaving a prior office location, where my performance by all measures was among the best but the harassment was intolerable. So most of the time I keep to myself, and never speak explicitly, at all, about being gay. It's not hidden at all, but I just keep quiet.
Yesterday the office staff were discussing their husbands' lack of giving them chocolates or flowers for valentines day. "My hubby never gives me flowers" . In my role, I don't engage in the banter and gossip. I'm just nice to everyone. As I walked past, one of them said, "So, did your hubby give YOU flowers for valentines day?" Blew me away. I had never spoken to her about my hubby.
The answer was, "No, he's in China for Chinese New Year with his family" and she say "Awe, you poor man! You deserve better"
Made me feel really good. Totally accepting. Nice feeling.
I still have some PTSD about an earlier life of abuse and harassment and discrimination. But yesterday felt really good.
Comment by Sentient Biped on February 15, 2013 at 11:10pm I am sure the "god made a gay man" video is a parody of the awful Paul Harvey dodge commercial. I could also comment on the issue of inclusiveness - maybe it will start an internet meme for "god made a ..... " LGBTI person. Or even "Evolution made a....."

Comment by Ruth Anthony-Gardner on February 15, 2013 at 10:58pm The pro-gay message of your video is great, Sentient Biped, but the drumbeat of theism -yuck!

Appropriate for Valentine's Day -- the Illinois Senate passed marriage equality!
Comment by Chrissie Farthing on February 11, 2013 at 10:40pm Oh, she is creepy but if you watch the video it is her and its the look she gave when they asked her if gay people had any use whatever and she was saying "in her opinion NO" When you look at the data on Sullivan IN. There are just over 4000 people there and the average wages of those people in that town is in the $21K range and many have no job it appears they are not a very competent group.

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film. The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons. He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"! .
No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes. 'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands. Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
