We don't know for sure yet, but it looks like Ref71 is going to pass in Washington. :D

We lost Question 1 in Maine. I wonder if the Yes side has any idea how painful this is.

65% of Kalamazoo, MI voters approved the Kalamazoo Non-Discrimination Ordinance, a margin greater than the remaining votes from the outstanding absentee ballots that are still being counted, adding protections for gay and transgender people to the city's non-discrimination ordinance.

Eric, good to hear that.

Still don't know in WA. THe "good" people of Maine apparently say "fuck you" to teh gays, but "give us our weed!". I also saw an article stating they were passing around collection plates in church to support the anti-same-sex-marriage ammendment, and that the court saws you can keep petition signers secret, but that only applies if it's an antigay petition.

ANdrea, I think they know how painful it is and they are happy for that. Just my opinion.

Looks like WA narrowly voted to keep the "Everything but marriage" civil partnerships. Probably not the last that we've heard on the matter, but it's a step. Interesting to read the comments (Caution, it's a conservative blog) here: like, "America is on the ''RIGHT'' step. American people are waking up to the fact that liberal are destroying America. Marriage is between a man and a woman who produce children. Gays produce aids. God Bless America" and "Great news out of Maine. The voters there showed real moral fiber and common sense. A pity the margin against queer "marriage" was not greater than 53-47, but a win is a win. Not so good out of WA, but at least it's not marriage. Americans are a tolerant (too tolerant IMO) people, and are willing to give "gays" something, but when it comes to actual marriage, fuhgeddaboutit."

Of course the yes side knows how painful it is. But think about how much easier THEY'LL sleep at night knowing that they kept YOU from ever sleeping easy again.

Still haven't figured out how to create a good survey widget, compatible with Ning platform, for this page. Anybody know a sure bet?

Well, maybe I figured out a way to poll. Please vote! If it works, this will be a convenient way to get some answers.

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 4 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
