Comment by Sentient Biped on November 13, 2012 at 10:39am Now that the election is over, time to take a little break from US political topics.. this is what I'm telling myself. There's a lot more to the world.
Meanwhile, this video was fun.
Comment by Joan Denoo on November 10, 2012 at 11:14pm Sentient, I am truly happy for you and happy to see sanity regarding this in Washington state legalization; There aren't many states, but at least legalization is moving in the right direction.
Laws regarding same-sex partnerships in the United States
1May include recent laws or court decisions which have created legal recognition of same-sex relationships, but which have not entered into effect yet.
2See the article on same-sex marriage in California for the status in California. .
Comment by Sentient Biped on November 10, 2012 at 6:06pm KW, you got it! That's exactly the unspoken threat. NOM is evil. Although, I do think they will know Starbucks is not the US. But your point is well taken.
Comment by Sentient Biped on November 10, 2012 at 5:42pm It looks official now in WA state as well: You can marry your partner regardless of whether you are different or same sex. Starting Dec 6.
It's interesting. No hetero person, who I know here, has suggested to me they are aware of this. Even though they know I am officially domesticpartnered to my partner. You'd think SOMEONE would have the sensitivity to say, "nice - now you are equal here". It's not like they have to gay marry someone. My brother has also not said anything, although I'm not surprised about that.
I'm very glad. This affects a lot of people in a lot of ways. I hope there is a contagious effect to other places.
Comment by sk8eycat on November 10, 2012 at 1:41pm I've never understood how a religion can be "threatened" by voters granting civil rights to a group in another country. The only real threat to religion(s) is TRUTH!
IMO all the Cat-Licks, Muslims, and other groups are doing is showing the world that no matter how many adherents they claim (and how much cash they launder through the Vatican Bank), they are WEAK ... and running scared. They wouldn't be having these hissy-fits otherwise.
Comment by Sentient Biped on November 10, 2012 at 1:24pm Horrified by voter approval of marriage equality in 3 US states, and loss of antigay amendment in Minnesota, NOM goes after Starbucks in arab countries. Advocate.com
"in Qatar, in the Middle East, we've begun working to make sure that there's some price to be paid for this. These are not countries that look kindly on same-sex marriage. And this is where Starbucks wants to expand, as well as India. So we have done some of this; we've got to do a lot more."
So, in order to punish an American company for supporting marriage equality in that company's home state of WA, Catholic shill NOM claims they are enlisting overseas Arab Muslims and Indian Hindus to support their cause. How? What happens in those countries when masses think their religion is threatened?
NOM...Evil incarnate.

And a line from Magic's Pawn by Mercedes Lackey:
"If same-sex couples occur in nature, how can this be unnatural?"

I highly recommend this book, the first volume of "The Last Herald Mage" trilogy, to anyone who enjoys fantasy fiction, but particularly to young adults who are having problems accepting their sexuality, or having problems with other people accepting their sexuality. The main character is gay, and as you read all three books, you see him accept himself, mature, and become one hell of a hero.
I enjoy ALL of Misty's novels, and read each one at least once every year. They are not the usual fantasy stories...she has a wonderful sense of humor, and that keeps the stories from becoming depressingly grim. She also inserts all kinds of intelligent non-humans that resemble animals from our own world...I'm rather fond of the Firecats (of course), but they don't show up until very late in the (very long) Valdemar epic.
But back to "The Last Herald Mage" trilogy, if I had the means, I would give the whole set to every English-speaking gay adolescent just so that they could see that there's nothing "wrong" with them, and that there are many, many str8s who feel the same way.
Including me.
Comment by Joan Denoo on November 7, 2012 at 5:57pm Oh my goodness, Sentient, I do hope the laws change so that you can marry your parter. Personally, I am not into marriage, but for you, I am 100% for whatever makes you happy.
Comment by Sentient Biped on November 7, 2012 at 4:53pm Great for Spain!
France... the jury is still out. maybe.

Even tho WA state, where I live, hasn't officially announced yet, I have to say it will be a strange emotional space for me, going from domestic partner to husband. Good strange. I don't know why that is. It has a completely different "feel". Assuming that happens.
Comment by The Flying Atheist on November 7, 2012 at 2:08pm Great news, Carlos! Another nail in the coffin for outdated and bigoted ideologies.
