Oh my goodness, Sentient, I do hope the laws change so that you can marry your parter. Personally, I am not into marriage, but for you, I am 100% for whatever makes you happy.

I think the US is. culturally, at least 2 countries, maybe 3. Progress is happening.

Even tho WA state, where I live, hasn't officially announced yet, I have to say it will be a strange emotional space for me, going from domestic partner to husband. Good strange. I don't know why that is. It has a completely different "feel". Assuming that happens.

It was expected but it is a relief nonetheless.

We have had equal rights (including adoption, yay!) since 2005, but the conservative party (now in office) appealed the law to the Constitutional Court, that just now has backed the law.

The fight for equality - thoughts on this coming election.

It will be close in WA state.  I'm not going to get emotionally investing in winning any of this fights, including in my state.

In Maine, Catholic front group NOM, plus Knights of Columbus, probably having a big impact.

In Maryland, Catholics church also a major contributor against equality.

AfricanAmerican vote is key in Maryland  - changing views on equality may help.

Looking at how close the votes are, and also the national presidential election (almost seems like there are no other votes happening), and the historic and prevalent disdain for LGBT people, I'm not holding my breath.

Anybody more optimistic?

Anybody working for change?  I've given $$$ for marriage equality and for Obama, but long work hours prevent me from other involvement.  I fear the $$$ are profoundly wasted on robocalls, useless surveys, and meaningless shallow ads, but I don't know what else an individual can do.

Loren...amazing!  I have been saying for years that gay marriage bans are JUST like the anti-miscegenation laws of the past.  And just as useless.

I remember when I left SoCal for the first time in 1957 to tour with an ice show.  We played a lot of towns in the South, and it was almost a physical shock, like walking into a wall, when I first saw things like segregated waiting rooms in railroad stations, side-by-side segregated drinking fountains, city busses with little signs by every seat saying who could sit where, and more.  (Poll Taxes=Voter suppression?)  I'd read about things like that, but actually seeing the labels and hearing the verbal bigotry was something else again.

Oh, yes.  The arenas and auditoriums we played were segregated, too.  The descendants of slaves had to sit in the topmost balcony, or arena section.  Bizarre!

The preacher was right, there IS no difference between segregation and denying LGBT people their civil rights.

I've been wondering WHO'S NEXT?  Atheists?  Hmmmm?
