I used to be like that, too, Sentient. However, I felt overwhelmed. Now, I just follow them all on twitter. I am a regular on Queerty because of the snarky tone. I am like that anyway, so I fit right in there.
Shannon, I read some of the same ones as you. Usually joe.my.god, hufpo gay voices, queerty, rod 2.0, holy bullies and headless monsters, advocate, towleroad, thinkprogress lgbt, and sometimes a few others. I think that's why I need to cut back. There is a fair amount of cross pollination among these.
So you guys should totally help me out and go read and comment.
Sentient, I read Queerty, Huffington Post Gay Voices, Veracity Stew, and I am a US Politics writer for Surface Earth, where I focus on as much LGBT stuff as possible I also belong to countless gay groups on Facebook and Google+.
LOL! At least bigots can be a little entertaining in their stupidity.
Couldn't resist - on the Oreo Buzzfeed thing below. This one is a special, christian love-filled favorite. What cookie is this guy eating?
The first time I saw this Oreo I thought it was a joke aimed for people who were African American on the outside and gay on the inside. I don't know if that mean's I'm overly sensitive or inadequately sensitive or just silly.
The internet gives people a great forum to express hate and stupidity as shown in this Buzzfeed. Glad I'm not on facebook. Those people are laughably silly. Biblical love? Dashing babies against the boulders? LOL.
My Favorite: "Since when does a cookie support faggots"
Good luck with boycotting Kraft. It's so super mega massive, no one even knows what all they make. Like, 1/3 of the grocery store, I would guess. Most not labeled as "Kraft".
Wish I liked Oreos. Now an LGBT fig newton (I know how easily that could be made into a fag newton) I could go for.
Sentient, I have the Topix gay news feed and the Box Turtle Bulletin blog on my news homepage which I view regularly. Yeah, they do have lots of bad news, but that's the reality of what we're fighting against. It only empowers me to be more active and vocal. Of course, not all the news is bad, so these sites are a good way to keep me informed on our group progress as well. You're sure not going to find that in the mainstream media news.
Every now and then, as with politics and religious fanaticism, I need to get away and take a short breather to regain my sanity and to recharge. I know how you feel.
I'm wondering, do people read LGBT blogs / news sites? I read several of the linked ones in the intro above. To be honest, sometimes it's overwhelming. They are great at reporting what's going on socially and politically - to the point where I become almost despondent. There is so much hate in the world against people like us (me). So much willful ignorance, scapegoating, us/them mentality. The haters are so numerous, effective, vocal, diligent, rich, obsessed. A lifetime of being hated, scapegoating, self-rightous hypocrisy, takes a toll. Back before I thought of LGBT as "identity", and just "what people do", it didn't seem so bad - it was like hating stamp collectors or metal-detector hobbyists. Only more heinous. Since it doesn't show on the surface (usually) sometimes I feel like a spy or someone in disguise, even when people know I'm gay. But to be hated for the core of who I am..... for an entire lifetime.... just venting. I should avoid the blogs :-)
