Meh, I'm just being silly, Joan. I'm in a silly mood lately.
Wouldn't necessarily say that any of that is "homosexual chatter." Certainly, gays have their own argot, but it's not something I use a lot.
Dallas, you certainly have broadened my vocabulary and exposure to homosexual chatter. This little old white haired, oxford wearing shoes lady who putters in the garden will skip such chatter and enjoy your wise and friendly conversations on other sites. I like you and have no intention of losing you, you're a dear man.
Sentient, I can always count on you to bring me back to rational thinking. Your kind words felt compassionate for me and for the poor demented woman.
If the woman did speak from dementia, or malice, and especially if there were those who agreed with her, there should be time for a thoughtful, reasonable homosexual to offer a counterpoint. Probably the young man behind her would not be the one; a mature, perhaps a kind, thoughtful lesbian could respond effectively in that chamber.
Confrontation by the young and/or angry homosexual on the street, using non-violent means but firm statements, would probably be ugly, but more effective in quieting her outrageous behaviors. She has the right to think and say what she will, but does not have the right to insult and call names. Isn't there a law against such speech?
"There are laws against verbal assault in every jurisdiction. It is rarely invoked, unless violence is also present. It is the old Assault and Battery charge. Hate Crime laws also protect minorities from being threatened with slurs."
Name calling: against the law or not?
Joan is ruight about having to walk away.
And yeah, the crazy woman in the video probably does have something wrong with her--which makes her doubly susceptible to religious nonsense.
That video is funny. But I've actually seen the baseball bat thing. Oh well, to each his own.
Are homophobes obsessed with gay butts? Sounds funny but "pastor" Patrick Wooden has been spewing disinformation about cell phone butt sex, so maybe so. By the way, I checked. Neither the Apple App store, nor the Android App store, has a butt sex app for cell phones. Patrick Wooden lied
Joan, I have a feeling that woman is demented. Poor thing.
Everyone here probably knows all of what's in this video, but it's interesting to see the information presented. Tony Perkins knows he's lying. He's not stupid. He spreads hatred and lies. And the press continues to interview him. And why don't the reporters ask Perkins about bible marriage, and historic marriage, rather than let him spew lies without countering him with his own bible?
Joan what you say here could almost be my mantra: Life is too short, and it is so much better to just shed off the foolish, uninformed, uncaring, and unloving people and build real community with mutual care. But don't downplay your own journey through life - I can see that you with through as much as anyone, anywhere, and emerged with a loving and strong spirit.
As to that profoundly stupid woman who blathered on, she is a menace to society because good, decent, kind persons, such as myself would like to murder her in cold blood. I suppose I could settle for a vibrant tongue lashing; she will never stop her diseased thinking, nor will she value differences or recognize not all homo sapiens are created as she was. This is one time I wish there were a god and burning in an eternal fire. Surely she qualifies.
I am sure being patient and trying to educate people about LGBT is a noble cause, but if it is anything like family violence, it is a useless endeavor. A culture that holds values of seeing homosexuality as a sin, whatever that is, many think that way because they may have learned it from childhood, with heavy, emotional sermons and bible study lessons. Misinformation goes into the brain, supported by strong emotion, and one has the formula for concrete boxes around the brain.
In China it was believed footbinding was a good thing for women and both men and women endoresed it and did what they could to make it happen. Their minds were bound.
Sex roles exist for the same reason; never mind an individual's native talent, sex determines options. Women will be the caregivers and men the providers. Both men and women suffered under such attitudes.
Race is another one that locks people into boxes from which they cannot escape.
Giving a woman control over her own body goes on the list of control over people, and for what reasons?
So, homosexuality, family violence, footbinding, sex roles, race and women's sexuality are just a few of the issues facing an individual in a culture.
I speak anecdotally now, but my experience is that I can not reform the church to help with family violence and I had to leave the church to find physical, mental and emotional safety.
Family was not able to recognize harm caused by brutal, thuggish behavior and I had to leave a husband and parents and family members in order to accomplish what I wanted to do, live in my own home unafraid.
I don't have homosexual or race issues with which to deal, but I assume people who do have these issues often find leaving family, religion, work, social structures that enable oppression and even death is necessary. I had it easy compared to what others have to tolerate, but the issue is, to me, don't tolerate brutes and thugs, whatever they wrap those behaviors into. Life is too short, and it is so much better to just shed off the foolish, uninformed, uncaring, and unloving people and build real community with mutual care.
if people want the rss changed I'm happy to do that. I want it as inclusive of L+G+B+T as possible. Any suggestions other than pink pages?
In the battle between morality and faith, morality is winning
Via a tweet by Jamelle Bouie comes this piece from Rachel Held Evans that surprised even me.
When asked by The Barna Group what words or phrases best describe Christianity, the top response among Americans ages 16-29 was “antihomosexual.” For a staggering 91 percent of non-Christians, this was the first word that came to their mind when asked about the Christian faith. The same was true for 80 percent of young churchgoers. (The next most common negative images? : “judgmental,” “hypocritical,” and “too involved in politics.”)
What makes this all the more fascinating is that the Barna Group is a pro-Christian research firm. They exist to provide data with an eye towards growing and strengthening Christianity. These aren't a bunch of rowdy atheists saying, "So there." Neither are, I would add, Jamelle or Rachel. Both are Christians and both are deeply disturbed this information, and by the results: [continue]
