I agree with all of you, especially your last sentence, Dominic. I always say that I don't mind people having different opinions on issues, as long as they can present evidence as to why their opinion has merit. In politics, we must accept this because people have different views and different concerns.

 

That being said, there is nothing anti-gay about having views different from liberals, per se. But the GOP has gotten so fanatical in their rhetoric and views, and so anti-gay, anti-constitution, anti-democracy, anti-liberty for all, that it seems like a betrayal that any gay person would side with them.

 

The local gay gop keeps saying their trying to change the party from within, and that's complete BS. Those people don't respect you. You'd have better luck making the democrats accept your views on economics or environmental policy because at least the dems wouldn't treat you like a second-class citizen for being gay.

 

Alas, fanaticism and self-deception are not problems that belong solely to heterosexuals.

 

IMO, a gay person who supports the GOP in today's political climate is like a black person who supports the KKK, or a woman who supports the Taliban, or a Jew who supports Al Qaeda.

I have no sympathy for the LGBT people who work for homophobic politicians and belong to homophobic, supposedly LGBT organizations like GOProud.  They are adults, they have brains, they have choices.  It's like, do I have sympathy for LGBT priests and bishops and evangelical fundamentalist ministers.  No.  They need to open their eyes and think with their brains and quit selling out to the hate agenda.

It is a horrible thing when xtians stick to the rules of their book for one thing but not others. @ Dallas, so not only do gays have to come out of a closet, but now they have to come out of a Republican closet which it seems has doors with multiple locks and is made of impenetrable steel.

Just as there are Gay Republicans and Gay Christians, if it were allowed, we would see gay black members of the KKK and Jewish Gay Nazis.  Self hatred is a terrible thing and it comes in many forms.  Anyone who says that there sexuality is not an issue, or is not as important as another issue, or it is not what defines them, is downgrading the essence of who they are, their very core.  And make no mistake my friends, no matter how comfortable they pretend to be, no matter how "out" they are, no matter how "liberated: they claim, they will be the first ones to hand the rest of us over to the captains of the death camps.  That might sound dramatic, but the reality is that they relate to you and I when they want sex and/or some entertainment at a club, but they yearn for heterosexual "respectability", approval by the oppressor.

I have to wonder how gay men and women who now work for the election of Republican members of Congress, Senators and Romney himself can sit in their work seats and refuse to stand up, walk in the direction of their bosses and candidates, and ask them to join the President on this.

 

I have to wonder how long they can remain indentured servants, how long they can continue to accept the Republican Party’s don’t ask, don’t tell rule that you can work here as long as you keep your mouth shut.

Sentient, I am embarrassed to say I had forgotten Jim West.
"James Elton "Jim" West (March 28, 1951 – July 22, 2006) was an American politician. In 2005, while Mayor of Spokane, Washington, he was the target of allegations of the sexual abuse of boys twenty years earlier. These allegations became public after West became a target of a sting operation conducted by his hometown newspaper, theSpokesman Review. Some journalists and academics criticized the paper for what they saw as a form of entrapment.^[1] West admitted engaging in homosexual behavior with adults, despite an earlier record of supporting "anti-gay" legislation. Though never charged, he was removed from office by recall in 2005. The Federal Bureau of Investigation eventually closed its investigation and took no action for lack of evidence.

"In 1982, West was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives as aRepublican representing the 6th legislative district. He was elected to the Washington State Senate in 1986 serving until his resignation to become Mayor of Spokane, Washington, in 2003. In the Senate West held the positions of Chairman of the Committee on Health, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and Majority Leader. During his years in the legislature, West developed a record as an opponent of homosexual rights. He supported several "anti-gay" bills, including one that would have banned gays and lesbians from working in schools and day care centers. He unsuccessfully proposed a law banning all sexual activity among unmarried persons under the age of 18. In 1995, when West was a state senator, he advocated the impeachment of Gov.Mike Lowry for alleged sexual harassment.
