AnneT thank you for the link.  It's moving to see the human faces of the people affected by the inhumane ballot measure, where people will be voting for or, I expect more likely against, human rights, in North Carolina.

There was quite a lot of homoerotic Aztec and Mayan art and pottery that was destroyed by--you guessed it--the effin' christian missionaries when they were conquered by Europeans. Some of it has survived, but for whatever reason I am unable to find any of the images on Google.

Will check it out. One final thing I learned about most of them,(our ancestors), the ones with a codified pantheon of dieties, is that they were all considered, to one extent or another, a reflection, an avatar, a manifestation of the primary god/goddess. Kinda like a roundabout form of monotheism. One primary, with many subsequent "flavors", depending on your needs at the time. And since all were a projection of the human psyche, all forms of life needed its own avatar. Very interesting. Stuff like this really helps one understand humanity at large. Guess that's why it always fascinated me. Anyhoo, be well, my friend. Until later, peace.

Tony, here's a link to wikipedia, the source of all knowledge :-) on LGBT deities and semideities.  I regard these legends as similar to sci fi but with historic meaning because people either believed the stories or enjoyed telling them in the past.  They are fun to read.

 

Aztec god "Xochipilli was the god of art, games, beauty, dance, flowers, maize, and song... also the patron of homosexuals and homosexual prostitutes... complex set of associations including the role of entertainer, the love of exotic foods and perfumes, male gender variance, and same-sex eroticism" - sort of the Liberace of the Aztec pantheon. (Anyone who doesn't know who Liberace was can google on him).
