Washington State Legislature has now passed Marriage Equality.  Since Governor Gregoire was forceful in promoting the bill. she is expected to sigh.  Unless an Invasion of the Republican Body Snatchers occurs.  For those of us in registered Domestic Partnerships, those relationships will transition into marriage unless the partners opt out formally.    Reuters.com  There is no question that Antimarriage groups will mount a repeal effort, resulting in foot-dragging.  The majority of state residents actually support keeping equality in place, as of the last poll that I saw.  But if such a measure did pass, then the California Measure 8 Repeal could have relevance, even though taylored to apply solely to the California situation.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will issue a ruling on Prop. 8 tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. PT.  No matter the outcome, the next step will take it to the SCOTUS.

Rally for hate in Maryland.  It's hard to watch it and not think about rallies in the 40s and 50s and 60s against integration.  Hate, ignorance, parochialism, jingoism, mob mentality....  What the fuck is wrong with them?

This video is via the American Society for Tradition, Family, and Property, a supposedly lay catholic group placing ads calling for a religious war against gay people.  From their ads:

By legalizing same-sex “marriage,” the State becomes its official and active promoter. It calls on public officials to officiate at the new civil ceremony, orders public schools to teach its acceptability to children, and punishes any state employee who expresses disapproval. …

Left unchecked, this anti-Christian trend will become an unprecedented assault on the First Amendment and our American way of life that we do not hesitate to call persecution. …

As the homosexual revolution’s anti-Christian intolerance makes itself felt through increasingly persecutory measures, a terrible problem of conscience arises in any who resist: Should we follow our consciences? Should we give in?

For Catholics like ourselves, the condoning of same-sex “marriage” would be tantamount to a renunciation of Faith. …

This is a battle for the soul of America. The so-called Cultural War is gradually becoming a Religious War.

The bigots claim to be "courageous".  Bullshit.  Participating in a mob is not courageous, lying and scapegoating is not courageous, and spouting bigotry is not courageous.

The bad-lip-reading of Prick Santorum.  Now I understand.  I was just hearing wrong.

TFA - you are preaching to the choir!  I agree with you on all counts!

It's 2012 and this country is still fighting a Civil War from 150 years ago.  You only have to read what our fellow citizens write in the comment sections of online news articles under a cloak of anonymity to see how they really feel.  The vile, prejudiced, disgusting and hateful statements really do alarm me at times.  It's no wonder social change takes so long and countless people have to needlessly die in the process.  A few years ago Andy Rooney, famous for his old-man rants on "60 Minutes" (and an atheist) was asked in an interview "What gets you really mad?  His response?  "The stupidity of the American public."  I'm glad someone in the public eye had the balls to say the truth.

BTW, Mayor Booker is very cute.  :)

That is what they continually fail to understand. That protecting the minority from the tyranny of the majority is vital to a representative democracy. Yes, I know, their response to that would be "yada yada, whatev".

Catholics would still be confined to Maryland if we did everything by majority rule. Oh, and Bush would've lost to Gore.

Loren, this is a better answer than mine.

There would still be Jim Crow, of course.
