Ian, all of the states have both sides of the equality coin. This will probably play on for at least a generation.  The ad plays to stupidity - "we should keep things unequal because they have always been unequal".  Oh, that makes sense!  Actually, marriage has not "always" meant one man and one woman, and the bible has many variations on marriage, including those of the bible-god's favorites like David, and Abraham.  The christians are the biggest liars on this issue, because they just want to promote bigotry.

As a Minnesotan, I am completely embarrassed.  Sure, marriage has always been used to refer to the union of man and woman.  So what?  Meanings of words change all the time.  Even if marriage had previously meant "hot dog," it wouldn't in any way constitute an argument against the gay marriage movement.

I love Neil deGrasse Tyson. His shows on NOVA are absolutely awesome. Some of the supposed fans of the show The Next Big Thing not so much. An episode had an interview with a scientist and mentioned that he was gay. People felt so motivated by a 30 second spot about a scientist being gay that they had to find the website and make a point of complaining about the gay guy on the show. I don't understand the amount of effort into promoting hate. If you don't like what the show presents don't watch it.

Nerd, I voted for #1.  Apparently I'm in the monority, as usual.

I haven't linked to them, but there have been multiple editorials commenting that (1) Iowa is not representative of the nation and (2) the republican caucuses are not representative of Iowa and (3) few primary winners in Iowa go on to win the nomination, let alone the presidency.  It's more an issue of weaning out some of the least effective candidates.  Even so, it's frustrating that a group of candidates has been vying for "who hates gays the most", in order to garner votes.

What a group of, apparently, older, very christian, white, midwestern farmers with time on their hands (I come from a long line of older, very christian, white midwestern farmers with time on their hands, by the way) think of a candidate probably isn't representative of much of anything but that demographic.

That being said, I don't relish the thought of seeing Santorum all over my computer screen for the next (how many?) months.

Acceptance can take a long time.  When you are transgender growing up in a Baptist family in Mississippi, being who you are is nothing less than heroic.
