Smallpox & polio are on the verge of eradication for years now, only because it was affecting the young and the innocent within American suburbia. Anything that effects an undesirable population (gays, blacks, elderly) is less than a concern.

Permalink Reply by Sentient Biped on January 28, 2012 at 2:01pm I have never been able to rid myself of the idea that HIV may have been spread in the US by government people during the Reagan administration. I remembered reading that, anyone who developed a puzzling and severe disease while traveling would have blood samples saved at the CDC or other agencies, for analysis and research, and if unexplained, they were kept in liquid nitrogen for preservation. I'm not sure where I read that - it might have been Randy Shilts' book, And the Band Played On. Later, some of those samples still in existence have shown the presence of HIV. Of course, Randy Shilts is dead. Meanwhile, the Reaganites were fighting a culture war, against both gays and drug users. And against African Americans. It would take little or no expertise to inject a few drug users or gay men with diluted blood samples, "just to see if it took". In fact, IV drug users, providing tainted needles could do it. Given the infectious character of HIV, once the epidemic started in even one person who shared needles (and many did) or one sexually adventurous gay man at the height of the gay "free love" era, the only direction that it could go was to spread like wild fire. Starting this epidemic would not take any special expertise in viral culture, genetic engineering (which wasn't around yet), or espionage, or even fully realized intent. Just randomly exposing unaware people to a variety of existing samples. Epidemics always start with exposing one person, or a few people, in a vulnerable setting, to a new disease. Take the decimation of Native Peoples in the Americas, and in Hawaii, and the Black Death, and the great Flu epidemics.

I'm not usually into conspiracy theories, but this is not too far fetched. If it did happen, it could involve such a small number of people, who are probably now dead, we would never know. If it was done, it achieved some of the goals of those in power at the time - putting breaks on sexual freedom, eliminating drug users, and adding to the tribulations of the African American community.

As to whether drug companies intentionally hold back on cures, I don't know if that would profit them. Seems to me that a vaccine program, which could mean vaccinating 6 billion people, would be a profitable exercise. Then again, the highly addictive narcotics that some of the drug companies market, are proof they stop at nothing for big profits.

Here is another book about the origins of the HIV epidemic, and potential roles of vaccination programs. The origins of AIDS, by Jacques Pepin. I think I will read it. From the description, "He shows how the disease was first transmitted from chimpanzees to man... how urbanization, prostitution, and large-scale colonial medical campaigns...combined to... fuel the spread of the virus...ultimately worldwide"
Permalink Reply by Evil For All Time on January 29, 2012 at 11:35am All of the above methods of madness, courtesy of F.O.G. (Factions of Government) would exercise the use of many malicious devices to create conservative dominance.
Oh, here you go, we offer free blankets as an extension of good faith (riddled with small pox to clear out unwanted Native American tribes).
Oh, we will dedicate our staff and resources towards "treatment" and "prevention" for AIDS/HIV (maintaining vaccination anonymity by killing off those filthy sodomites along with generating a seismic profit boom).
Again, methods of human cruelty is anything but new in light of capitalistic gain. The proliferation of this epidemic is an exact formulation of an obvious win/win scenario from the conservative self-righteous collective.
Hence the title, "Evil For All Time".
Thanks again for the read, I've seen "And the Band Played On" mentioned on other sites as well, I'll be sure to look into it.

You might be interested in the story of Purdue-Pharma and Oxycontin. $3billion in profit. The company misbranded the drug as having less addiction potential, when in fact it is as bad as heroin - another drug that was made to have less addiction potential, than morphine... another drug that was to have less addiction potential, than opium. The next "better opiate" - maybe high strength hydrocodone. This is not new,the opium wars are part of the history of this historic trend of abuse. 15-20% of doctor visitsin the US involve prescription for an opiate. These are the most commonly prescribed drug category in the US. I'm not sure where benzos come in (xanax, Serax, Valium, Ativan) but I would bet a close second, and the addictive potential is as severe.

I don't really agree with you on the benefits of Marxism, but anyone who wants to learn social history is worth talking to. And I don't disagree with you about abuse of capitalism run amok - Apple is heinous. Contrast their behavior in China now, essentially treating workers as disposable slaves, with their 1984 commercial
Permalink Reply by Evil For All Time on January 29, 2012 at 1:38pm Ah, its a while since I've seen that commercial, an oldie and a goodie.
F.O.G. has constant wet dreams to fill your prescription regiment with a volatile chemical cornucopia.
I love how Romney is pushing a synthetic cannabinoid that will prove worthless for the user, only to funnel profits from tax payer dollar.
Marxism has remained to be a jagged and bitter pill for our society, it is key to demystify the rules of engagement set in place to better clear the F.O.G.
Alas, baby-steps are needed... Abolition of religious domination, property for profit entitlement, and class division are paramount and quite appropriate.
