One thing I noticed in retrospect is the delight we took in womens heart and soul. Unlike your avrage rock session, and there's much rock I like, the womens view took a larger part as far as i'm concerned in Black American music than has ever been seen before even if , in a sense they were held in the same iniquities all other women were suffering under at the time. So somehow some cultural phenomana took place and the black sisters were allowed to write but more importantly I feel is produce. The best example I think is the Pied Piper production set up. Arouind that sort of atmosphere women like Joshie Jo Armstead and Lorraine Chandler were into writing, singing and producing records and like to play a lot of examples if I may because it's black american woman that are my strongest emotional tie to black american music. I'd like to start with an accapella sound of a beautiful voice before I post some of the more frantic /fast or urgent ones. A rambling excuse to play some lady tunes.

A thought's just struck me in that perhaps it was all a bit more exotic and rareified for us this side of the pond.

Some great material. Might be easier to discuss it in discussions forums rather than on wall.
