I spent 5 years on active duty, 4 in the USMC, 1 in the US Army (Medical Discharge). I still have my MAAF card in my wallet.

I still work close to the military as a contractor for the Navy/Marine Corps Intranet.

Just wanted to say hi, have not posted for a while, I was the Official Photographer for the Global Athiest Convention in Melbourne in March, it was AWESOME. As the Photographer, I had full access to all speakers I spent time with Richard Dawkins, taking his portrait, had breakfast with PZ Meyers and a coffee with AC Grayling, met Rob Barker, Jamie Kilstien, nonstampcollector. A great time with 2500 fellow athiest.

Also, to all those serving overseas, stay safe and come home, you are all in my thoughts

regards

I'm an old timer. I had a lateral transfer from 12 years of Catholic schools to the Marine Corps, 66-70, Vietnam 67-68. When the DIs yelled that there were "no Atheists in foxholes", I just kept my mouth shut. I had decided not to believe in ghosts at the age of 16. My schooling had convinced me of the opposite of what was intended. I'm a recent member to MAAF, and this is my first post. I'm glad we have a place to go.

MAAF has resources including ideas for setting up a meeting in your local area or on base. The best way to keep things optional is to keep it social. Form there, you can pick out the ones that want to take more action. And of course, there are ways to interact directly with MAAF and our partner organizations, like SCA.

Hello everyone, I've been a member for a while but have never posted. I am AD and am interested in ideas on how to get more of my fellow nontheists (there are more than most people think) involved without becoming too pushy or crossing any lines. I don't want my fellow SMs to do something just because they want to make me happy, but rather because they realize the importance and urgency of getting involved and at least paying attention so that we can finally gain the political influence we should have. Any ideas or stories of past experiences will be appreciated!!

On Feb 26th, 2010, MAAF participated in an historic policy briefing of a presidential administration by members of the nontheist community. MAAF presented a new MAAF demographics study showing 23.4% nontheist population within the military. MAAF also asked for taching sessions down to the lowest level asserting the rights of nontheists and providing for education about nontheist issues. MAAF provided this information as the best way to ensure justice for nontheist service members who new suffer ostracism for their beliefs.

Here's a link to some positive local press on MAAF at Fort Hood that ran in the Killeen Daily Herald today.

Wanted to shamelessly promote our "Atheists in Foxholes" group on Facebook. As Well as the MAAF group on Facebook. Let the Facebook community know we're real as well.
