Foundation Beyond Belief is a charitable foundation created by and for atheists and humanists. The Foundation highlights ten charitable organizations per quarter in such categories as health, poverty, environment, education, human rights, and more.
Members join by signing up for a monthly automatic donation in the amount of their choice, then set up personal profiles to indicate how they would like their contribution distributed among the categories. Maybe you'd like to give 25 percent each to human rights, poverty, education, and the environment. We'll distribute it accordingly. By year's end, you will have helped support a dozen organizations in the areas you care most about.
Only secular organizations are considered for support, with the exception of our Challenge the Gap category, which features progressive, non-secular, non-proselytizing organizations. At the end of each quarter, 100 percent of the donations will be forwarded and a new slate of beneficiaries selected.
Active members can join online discussions centered on the ten categories of giving, advocate for causes, and help us choose the new beneficiaries each quarter. We also host a multi-author blog focused on the cause areas, as well as humanism, philanthropy, and the intersection of the two.
On January 1, 2010, we launched the full site, including the ten featured causes and the means for members to select and change their preferred distributions. As of August 2011, we've raised over $175,000 for 60 charities and have launched Volunteers Beyond Belief, a US-national network of humanist volunteer teams working for the improvement of their communities.
We've begun creating a powerful presence for compassionate humanism in the world of philanthropy. Join us!

Comment by Claire on March 16, 2011 at 8:47am So far, 231 awesome humanists have donated over $11,000 to the Japanese Red Cross in support of the earthquake/tsunami relief effort! In the aftermath of the disaster, the Japanese are now dealing not only with the devastation created by natural causes, but also with the very serious threat of nuclear catastrophe. Our fellow human beings need our help, so please, Chip-In!
Comment by Claire on March 11, 2011 at 4:00pm The earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan have caused widespread devastation. If you want to contribute to the relief effort, you can use the Chip-In widget in the upper right-hand corner of our website:

Tell your friends, neighbors, and family to join up!
