Joan, have you still not seen the random vegetable?

Comment by Plinius on September 4, 2014 at 7:19am

It would be seen as theft here. Randall, that is not normal behaviour! Have you ever talked to them?

Pat, you're lucky. Or it's the "free advice" you give. My neighbors (I count 5) have never brought me anything or asked me over for dinner (I've been living alone for 15 years). But they know to gather freely from my yard (fruit) and garden. I guess the word "reciprocate" isn't in their vocabulary.

Sadly, Ruth's pictures or comments do not come through to my wall, and sometimes they don't even come in the mail. I get Ruth's avatar and her name and nothing else. It is times like today, with comments about "Random Vegetable", that I miss. She is such a great inspiration to me and anything she sends is always something in which I am interested.

I have had my last serving of haggis, thank you very much! I'm glad I tried it; once is enough. I like Scottish oatmeal with yogurt, kippers, pickled beetroot, and cranachan (raspberries and cream).

Time of the year I love the most. Got home today, and there were tomatoes, a honeydew melon, and cucumbers at my door, from my neighbors. Yeah, I give them legal advice and occasionally (once every 2 years or so) do a speeding ticket for them. I don't charge them. They're my neighbors, and we check on each other during winter ice storms, and if the truck ain't moved from the driveway in a couple of days. I don't expect their free produce, and they don't expect my free legal work.

Seems that things work with neighbors out in the boondocks.

Since we had no peaches here in North Central Indiana, guess I'll have to dig out some from my freezer. Sounds good.

Carl, we did have a spectacular crop this year. In fact, yesterday as I was driving past a few orchards, the trees are still loaded, and the apples are coming on like gang busters. Hope you got some of the white, free stone variety. It was vintage year for those babies.

LOL.  That "Random Vegetable" make me laugh every time I look at it.

Pat, I just had some Southern Illinois peaches my mother purchased at a farmer's market here in the Chicago suburbs.  Mmmmmmmm.  Delicioso.
