The low temperature here today was 40 F, 4.4 C.

Long cucumbers are often wrapped in plastic to slow moisture loss.

My guess is it's an English Cucumber:

Cold! Very cold this morning! Below 50 by several degrees, I forget how many. I just saw that big 4 before the next number and shivered.

If this is what climate change is like, I want normal back. OH! I forgot, I don't always get what I want!

So, out come the warmer clothes, pull out the winter garden gloves, and enjoy the sunlight. It won't be long before I start shedding clothes. Guess I better dress in layers.

Randy, I sure would have a heart to heart talk with them. Reciprocity requires the barter goes both ways. I know, it is tough to discuss such unpleasant matters with neighbors. What are your choices?

1. do nothing and fell OK about it.

2. feel a victim.

3. have a discussion.

4. triangulate by talking to other neighbors about the situation.

5. cry, pout, resent, feel exploited.

6. tell them what you expect in return.

7. shovel manure over your crop so they won't want it. (sabotage)

8. call the sheriff.

9. make fun of them.

10. shame them.

11. put up a "do not trespass" sign.

12. get a vicious dog.

Oh well, you get the idea!@

Spud! Thank you! What is it? a cucumber? zucchini? or something I don't know about? Have you any idea?

Joan, have you still not seen the random vegetable?

Comment by Plinius on September 4, 2014 at 7:19am

It would be seen as theft here. Randall, that is not normal behaviour! Have you ever talked to them?

Comment by Randall Smith on September 4, 2014 at 6:57am

Pat, you're lucky. Or it's the "free advice" you give. My neighbors (I count 5) have never brought me anything or asked me over for dinner (I've been living alone for 15 years). But they know to gather freely from my yard (fruit) and garden. I guess the word "reciprocate" isn't in their vocabulary.

Sadly, Ruth's pictures or comments do not come through to my wall, and sometimes they don't even come in the mail. I get Ruth's avatar and her name and nothing else. It is times like today, with comments about "Random Vegetable", that I miss. She is such a great inspiration to me and anything she sends is always something in which I am interested.
