Randall and Carl, I've gone through old books compiled by church ladies for casseroles and desserts. In the words of Tony the Tiger, THEY'RE GREAT!

What I'm doing now is getting on YouTube and looking at ethnic cooking (in the native language). Amazing what you can learn from a video of an abuela (grandmother) standing over a stove and kitchen counter with someone near her with a video camera.

Randy, I still use recipes that I cut out of the Chicago Tribune back in the early 1990's.  Two of them I've totally adapted and made into my own over the years.  An Asian pork with hoisin sauce and also a pounded chicken breast sauteed in lemon/orange juice and garlic.

I have several cookbooks I use, favoring some over others. But I also use recipes I've cut out of newspapers or magazines over the years. I went through my box and pulled out about a dozen "ideas", all vegetable related. Cabbage, brocolli, green beans, kale, etc.--steam, casseroles, mix and match. I'm overwhelmed. Summer is a good time to turn vegetarian.

Kudos, high five, commendation and applause to Daniel for posting the video on how to cut a watermelon. Just came back from the market with a medium sized watermelon that I cut into pieces and eat as part of my daily breakfast.

IT WORKS!!!!  Fastest method I've ever used.

Strange, but I never--and I mean never--buy grapes. I like them, just never think to buy them. I have a white grape arbor that infrequently produces clusters (not this year). And I started a Concord variety last year (nothing yet).

Since I read that microwaves are bad for one's health, I've tried to avoid it for cooking purposes. Who knows if it's true.

I love green seedless grapes also.  That is, I love them fresh off the vine.  Not from the store shelf.

Carl, I absolutely love green, seedless, grapes. I could eat my weight in the darn things. And, here in the southern most part of Illinois, I've not had any trouble getting them. However, I have to confess, I've been eating more peaches and local fruit which is currently in season. Especially the white, freestone, variety of peaches.

Spud, I've never had any food explode in the microwave. Well, other than a few bubbles bursting in stew, chili, soup, etc., if I overheat it. Then again, I've never cooked eggs in a microwave - ever. Bacon, on the other hand......

Up until a few months ago, I've never had any food explode after removing it from the microwave, and thought the tales of it happening were overblown.

I now know it happens.  For some reason in the last few months, a few of my eggs exploded after taking them out.

I've never been hurt by them, but have been startled, and had a little warm egg in the face : )

What are your experiences?

My favorite summer-time fruit are grapes - red and green seedless.  I go crazy eating them.

This summer, however, I've hardly purchased them.  The supply at the fruit market has been very small in quantity and also very poor in quality.

Has there been some major grape harvest failure this year?  I'm curious if any of you have had a similar experience this year.

Joan, thanks so much for your comments! Nate and Emily's farm is constantly evolving. My mother, nee Silverthorn, would be so pleased and proud (died Aug, '01).
