Correction! Larry just discovered the blocking device is no longer legal in USA, but customers complained and want phone service as they eat. Too bad. Well, I like Carl's example:

"WARNING! The use of cellular phones at Perry's is strictly prohibited. If you are that important that you must use a phone during lunch, you should be eating in a much more up-scale restaurant."

Carl, I love your dishwasher cartoon.

Daniel, I agree with the floor dishwasher strategy! Works for me. My daughter won't allow it so I sneak time for dogs to lick plates. I'm anti-authoritarian. Not so hot on cleanliness as I was when she was growing to adulthood. I raised three children who are cleaner and neater than I am now ... they learned the lessons I taught them ... DAMN!

According to Larry, my son-in-law who is a computer professional, stated that the restaurant can purchase a device that generates noise on which the frequency the cell phone operates, thus blocking incoming and outgoing calls. He said they are not expensive or complicated, it is a one-time purchase.

Carl thanksfor. the dishwasher advise. i find it helpful to put dishes on the floor before losding. The dogs lick them really clean, no stuck on food.

Carl, next time I'm up there, I'll have to stop in. Perry's sounds like my kind of place.

So, those addicted to their phones were the cause of the slowness, but they blamed the restaurant.

Pat, there's a deli here in downtown Chicago that has a strict "no cell phones" policy.  Signs are posted and customers are expected to abide by this rule.  If someone so-as-much walks into the deli on their phone, an alarm is sounded.  It's quite funny.

One of the signs reads:  "WARNING! The use of cellular phones at Perry's is strictly prohibited. If you are that important that you must use a phone during lunch, you should be eating in a much more up-scale restaurant."

Felaine, that reminds me of a restaurant I had breakfast in recently. Lady and I went to tour the Civil War National Battlefield of Shiloh. The morning we went, we stopped at a local place in Corinth, MS. The food was good, the service excellent, and the ambiance right out of the 1930's with the high tin ceilings and ceiling fans.

The one thing I noted the entire time I was there was that not one, single, solitary person pulled out a phone, iPad, or any other electronic device. If they wanted to communicate, they talked to the person sitting with them. If not, they read the local newspaper. It was really refreshing.
