Right off the top, let me say that I am no great beer expert.  I HAVE been drinking more suds lately and enjoying them, but I am nowhere near as well traveled in beer as I am in single-malt whisky. …Continue

I use the microwave as much as possible because it's more efficient.  This year, I plan on plumbing a natural gas line to the kitchen and replacing my old electric range with a gas one I have stored in the garage.  That should save some money also.

I've never used gas before, but I get the idea it's easier to control the temperature and faster heating.

Thanks some for may take awhile for us to get past the border.......hahahaha!!!

I use the microwave & the countertop oven/convection all the time. Since it's just the two of us now, there's not much point in heating the big oven for small meals. I use the big oven for baking bread, cookies, turkey, but the small one for everything else. I turn the convection on, or not, depending on what I'm doing.

My convection oven is part of the gas range, not a separate counter-top appliance, so I don't have a choice.  It doesn't bake/roast much faster than a standard oven, but it does cook at a lower temperature.  The fan runs all the time that it's on, so it doesn't save electricity...just gas.  BUT you don't have to pre-heat it.

The most difficult, touchy thing is baking cakes, but I haven't done anything that delicate in years...

Actually, I haven't done much of anything in years except bake cookies now and then.

I'm thinking seriously about making Turkey (or Chicken) Tetrazzini with tons of bell peppers and Tillamook cheese.  (I'm just not very fond of cooking the linguine ...maybe I'll substitute brown rice for that.)

Like Spud, thanks from me too!  I've really been enjoying talking about food and it has inspired me to try new things and enjoy life more.

Everyone is invited over for some corn bread and chili!

For some reason, I don't use our convection oven.  Maybe its the season.  It would be good in summer, doesn't heat up the house.

My grandfather had  a shed in the back yard, with a stove, sink, cabinets.  They cooked there in the summer.  They referred to that as their summer kitchen.  I imagine there were not grills back then.  Also no air conditioning.  Both my parents and grandparents had children late, so my grandparents' time was lat 19th / early 20th century.

I couldn't live without either my microwave or convection oven! I bet I use the oven every other day for one thing or another. It's convenient, heats up immediately, and saves electricity. I hardly use my regular oven anymore except for cookie sheets (cookies, kale chips, etc.). I'm using the conv. oven for an apple-pecan pie TODAY, in fact (my own combination experiment)! Pray for success (just kidding).

Don't have a convection oven. I've heard it cuts the time darned near in half for baking, roasting, etc. Don't know if that's true or not, but if so, I'd like to get one.
