I have an ice cream maker and often make my own.

At the public library I found books of recipes.

One of them, black pepper ic, became a favorite.

Use a vanilla ic recipe. Reduce the sugar by 50% and add a tbsp. of freshly ground bp.

I like bp and use 1.5 tbsp.

A few days ago I had the pleasure of trying several unusual flavors at Little Baby's Ice Cream in Philadelphia (they'll give tastes to help you decide), including Pistachio Rose, Strawberry Pink Peppercorn (a little peppery for me) and Earl Grey Sriracha (originally created as a joke, but it's well-balanced and actually works! It gave me the impression of just a hint of capsaicin).

GC, I absolutely LOVE pistachio ice cream! Now, with a little rose favor, I bet that would be outstanding.

I'd love to find a place like that where I could eventually try everything.

I didn't see root-beer on their list.  I would love that.  I'm always making root-beer floats.

With a pancake recipe that calls for water, use root beer instead.

You might, like my wife and I, conclude that the pancakes don't need syrup.

BTW, we tried orange juice too but it's too acidic.

Thanks Tom.  I'll try it.  Sounds interesting.

I never use syrup.  Don't like the stuff.  Just use butter or margarine.

I suppose I'm too conventional.  I'll stick with Baskin-Robbins' "Rocky Road" and be happy as a clam!

Yeah, engineers I know are kind of conventional.

I started in electrical but switched to math and tripped over a computer.

More found recipes. Start with two cups heavy cream, one cup whole milk, and 3/4 or 1/2 cup sugar:

  • 1-2 tsp anise, or
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon, or
  • 2 tsp ground ginger and 1 tsp van extract, or
  • 6 tbsp lime juice. Yeah, tablespoons.

Here are two I have yet to try.

  • Use 1/4 cup milk, 1 lb fresh or frozen peas, 1/2 cup cut mint leaves, or
  • Some people dip strawberries in chocolate....
