Florida Atheists and Secular Humanists Meetup just had 27 people at a meeting. We are practically a church! Come join us.

I'd love to come, but DH started a new job in Jacksonville, and he took our only car, so I'm without wheels at the moment. :(

Anyone in the Tampa Bay area interested in getting together to watch The God Who Wasn't There? Let me know. I'd like to have some people over to watch and then discuss.

Howdy from Mulberry. (I know, Mayberry? No, MULberry. But it's about that small.) We're just south of Lakeland.

@Rich - lol. I think Ben Franklin wrote about church steeples getting struck by lightning, and how that gave him the whole kite-key idea.

The Phrase, "rusty icons of conventional belief" obviously does not refer to works of humanity in the form of art, archtecture, poetry, music, sculpture or any cultural artifact important to us. It does refer to the tired shiboleths of supernaturalism that continue to pervade and corrupt our time. As for Star Trek, I find in it the seeds of a humanistic worldview that will supercede our present dilemmas if the the irrationally religiious do not succeed in destroying us first. The best we can do is to try, and keep on trying. To somewhat more humbly go where just a few others have been before.
