Howdy, I'm from the Sarasota/Bradenton area. It'd be nice to have someone to talk to. If you're from my area give me a shout. Maybe we could grab some coffee and chat.

Hello!  Newbie here, I am in good ole North Florida resident living in a small town.......

It is good to know there are some other Atheists in the state, even if this group doesn't seem all that active right now...

Hello from Citrus County, home of the manatee, the only other organism more revered here than the Republican!

Maria, Yes, my daughter has done several classes in FLVS but I've never encountered any religious content.  What they are requiring your child to do is proably over the line.  I would very politly write to the teacher and the supervisor and request "non" religious music titles.  Explain to them that you object to the religious theme.  If they refuse to find new acceptable selections then it might be time to get some advice from the ACLU.  Many teachers just don't know any better and if they grew up in Florida (obviouly I did not)-- they don't realize that what their doing is a violation of the Constitution-- because it's the way it's always been done... ugh.  If they refuse to cooperate, get your child private music lessons and write a letter of complaint to the superintendent of your district... good luck!
