Yeah, the guys do seem to be the dominant voice in the non-theist community. I've tried to contribute to some discussions before on this site and have been decidedly ignored. I look forward to participating in the unique world of female non-believers. I can't help but believe that our POV is at least as important as the guys'.

@unhloyroller, do you have any thoughts on why you were ignored? i'm curious about this. sometimes i wonder if it's because we tend to be more verbose.

grundgetta: you're right. i suppose that came to mind because of past experience. i was often made to feel like i talked too much... and was subsequently tuned out (ignored). i'll try to keep that in perspective!

Amy...I got the feeling I was butting in on a male-only discussion. Several guys would contribute to the discussions not gender-specific BTW, and would interact freely. I was just......ignored. Uppity little pissants! lol Not all of them are like this, but a significant number seem to have this elitist attitude.

well, i definitely agree that a lot of people (both male and female) are threatened by a strong woman. i've recently had problems with that at work. basically, it's the insecure ones who want to be able to control others... even in a subtle way. at this point, my attitude is pretty much "tough shit, deal with it".

i love this bumper sticker: A man of quality is not threatened by a woman seeking equality.

I've just noticed Stephanie Beiss created this group in May 2010, but there was already a WOMEN ATHEIST group, quite active, dating back to Sept. 2008!!! IMHO it's inefficient to be splitting our posts up in such a way, when there are already too few women discussing atheism on the internet. Does anyone know the history of how this occurred??? I totally agree we need female only space here, but I don't like to see it split up.
