Awesome Allision, I always thought someone should write "Why I Am Not A Pagan", since there is already Why I Am Not A Christian and Why I Am Not A Muslim. I think you probably have room for both in your book...your story and the arguments.

Hey folks :) need some input from our special subset of atheists! I've finally started writing about my deconversion from paganism. I've written about 5 pages, a basic sketch of events that led to me questioning paganism. I'm thinking about publishing this eventually and I would like to keep my few remaining pagan friends. I'm afraid this is really going to hurt them :( My end goal is to tell my story, make people aware of ex-pagans as atheists and the special perspective we have, and to also speak out about the problems with paganism as an alternative religion. I'm not sure if it will change anyone's mind but if it at least makes a few pagans think about what they do and why... that would be great. So, my question is... what do you think would be more effective? A book that focuses on my personal story only without using a heavy hand to draw any conclusions or a book that is more focused on ideas and arguments, using occasional references to my personal story to illustrate larger points? Definitely. I also joined AN specifically b/c I found this group and have found that others have had the same experiences.

Hi suzanne! I also joineed this site right after fi nding this group. Up until then, I couldn't find any expagan atheists! I think we are a group with a unique perspective and our voices contribute a lot to the discussion about whether any spiritual practice can be destuctive to a persons life and way of thinking. Welcome!

Hi this is the first time I ever posted in a group on here before. I was a member of a coven and I recently left. So I'm sorry if I posted wrong. This group was one of the reasons why I joined this atheist site.

I also grew up in a fundamentalist christian home so I have experiences with both christianity and paganism.
My experience is that Christians and Wiccans are both equally hypocrital. I got into wicca as a teen and practiced it for years but I recently found out that a coven will stop being friends with you just like the christians will.

I enjoyed reading everyone's posts in this group so far. A lot of it made me laugh because I can relate to so much of it:) Especially the craft name generator jokes. I'm dyslexic so I'm sorry if my punctuation is bad.

So I was at a party last week, and this guy starts telling my friend about how a girl at the party, who was giving massages and being kind of flirty, was an "energy vampire" who "couldn't resist touching people".

This is called projection! Just fucking admit you don't like the person, instead of ascribing some evil powers to them. It's not them with the problem, it's you!

And I'm not even getting started on the misuse of the word "energy".

Allison and Malena - Also well said. I went from Christianity to Paganism but without ever really believing in it literally. Was amazed to find how many Wiccan/Pagans were simply Christians under a new name.

In fact, I always kind of saw the practices of Wicca/Paganism as basic psychology with Earthy-spiritual imagery.

I still greet the moon when it´s full, and wonder about it when is new. I went to paganism for it´s nature love and, as an atheist, that I don´t have to leave that behind.
