Another thing to consider is the vast number of inactive "members" they still include in their 13 million figure. When I was on the mission, I'd say easily 85% of people on church roles had been long gone for years but never got their names removed.

Yeah, I think in the future, we'll start hearing less "fastest growing" propaganda...because, in the US, it's simply not so. There are other churches that can use the basic statistics to shred that to pieces.

Of course. I brought up Proposition 8, as I had heard, in addition to the "fastest growing" propaganda, that the church expanded with so many new members last year. I have no doubt it's misleading, but I don't know what the wording was, the net growth, decline, etc...

I mean, to be sure, since america has gained a lot of people since 1990, for the church to keep up its 1.4% of the population, that means it has gained numbers.

but it is not really...growing. furthermore, these numbers end at 2008 or so, so prop 8, etc., things won't 'show' up until later data is released

I didn't check it, hence the "apparently". Damned infernal TV box, lying to me again... I'm looking through articles now and they all say something different.

If no growth from 1990 to 2008 with proportion to the population of the country counts as "fastest growing" to you, then sure.

So apparently Mormonism is one of the fastest-growing faiths in America. It actually expanded significantly last year. It surprised me, because so many were losing faith in the church because of the actions around Proposition 8. And the fact that Mormonism is crazy. ...No offense.

I'm still on the lists; they still call me; occasionally I still go. I avoid throwing tantrums about so-called gender roles, gay rights, and the likelihood of anyone surviving in the belly of a whale. But one of these days, I'm gonna snap. It wont be pretty.
