I'm an American and want to THANK European atheists for being a reference point for sanity on this planet. My country really has religious and ideological issues that stun me on a daily basis. I also want to thank your continent as a whole for the relative sanity you provided during the Bush nightmare years. Much gratitude.

Hello Friends,
I’m glad to have found this group. I’m a Gibraltarian living in Sweden. Here in Sweden religion is not much of a problem Sweden is definitely a secular country but every now and again some religious crackpots get offended by art or literature or television ad or many other things. How is the rest of Europe coping? In my opinion European countries are quite secular and liberal compared to the US. What do you guys think? People I meet in Sweden tend to agree with me and people that I meet that are believers are almost embarrassed to admit it which is the opposite to what I think happens in the US.
Thanks!

I am sad to see Romania the darkest blue in the picture... but I really don't think it is true.

Hi people,

I'm new to AN. A Scot, living in Madrid, Spain at the moment but have a base in the UK, been to many a place in Europe. Some interesting threads on this board. Glad I found it.

Met a few Aussies last weekend in a bar in Madrid. Right off I made it plain I wasnt interested in the West coast of Scotland Catholic V Protestant thingy about football, told them I was an atheist. From there, the night went surprisingly well. Nobody got converted or anything but I was surprised that the Aussies were so taken aback at my stance on religion/god/theism. Basically that it is a load of bollox, best left to the stupids on the planet. We had a right laugh, even the missus got a bit tipsy. She by the way calles me 'fundamentalist atheist' - I'm still trying to work that one out.

Later.

"Atheist" is man's natural state. "Europe" is my native habitat. So I must join "European Atheists"
