Hello Ian - I haven't been following the debate, but believe you are correct that Germany has long since established the fact of separation of church and state.  One of the things I enjoy about living here is the lack of "religion in your face".  You won't hear a ton of "God bless" this or that, no billboards proclaiming God and Jesus as necessary requirements for a moral life, and no politicians spouting their beliefs and implementing religious ideas into public, secular laws.

Yes, life in Europe is good... ;o)

Welome, Lex.

I'm English but have lived in Denmark for the last 27 years. The debate is just getting started here about separation of church and state. Sweden did it 12 years ago, Norway did last year so it could be our turn soon. I imagine that's already a reality in Germany, there being a Lutheran half and a Catholic half.

I look forward to more of your posts.

Greetings All -  I am a Texas expatriate and writer of supernatural, science and speculative fiction.  I've lived in Germany for most of the past forty years or so.  It took awhile to get used to the weather, but only a short time to acclimate myself to the social, political, secular and life loving attitude of most Europeans.  I'm glad to have found this group and look forward to interesting discussion.

In Norway: Politicians have put forward a proposal partially separating Church... I am looking forward to see this expand into other countries!
