Loren, your comment, "My thought would be to take a suspect wind turbine and fully rig it out with sensors: accelerometers, vibration detectors and strain gauges, to really get a sense of what that overall system is facing in the real world and update or redesign based on that data (which very likely, they are already doing)."

Sounds like a good plan to me; let us hope research is already going on!

Would there be less stress on metals, bearings, resonance with other types of turbines if such large arms were not involved? Would these forms produce as much energy? Will risks to birds be different?
